Around the December break, many of us were told that a flyover video and announcement would be coming shortly. Well, around 10 months ago...April 2009...Heery was working on the design and environment stage. The flyover was posted to a public site by the company that did the video, Max Wave media.

Fast forward to three months ago...and the video was re-posted, however it was 5 minutes longer than the previous posted video. However, a codec was needed to view it. Well folks, the day has come and the flyover is visible at vimeo.com.

It is interesting to watch both videos because the latest one specifically has local leaders involved at the State and City level. It has all walks of the University involved.

Folks...this will knock your effin socks off!!!!! I would be happy with half of what they initially put out there. What I like about the potential stadium is this:

it's expandable
it's incorporate with the campus design in a spectacular fashion, with the fountains and the podium style walk-up platforms
it gives much needed space for offices/facilities
it will be devestatingly loud when finally complete
I love the big fat "UALBANY" on the tower

While I think the real stadium will actually not live up to this video...anything close would be amazing. Here is how I see this playing out based on what was publicly mentioned (phases and modular build out)by the University about 6 months ago.

Phase 1 will likely be the whole side that includes the tower, with lighting.
Phase 2 will likely be an endzone and the visitor side bottom.
Phase 3 will be the last endzone with the landscaping and fountains
Phase 4 will be the office building and building connectors.

Down the road, you would likely get the visitor deck and the endzone decks...rounding up to about 25-30k seats, the new four corner scoreboards.
Personally if we can get through Phase 1-4...and we pack the place and highschools/locals use it for other purposes, you will see money come in from Alumni and sponsors to build out the rest.

Again...have a look...and I have no inside knowledge of when this would start or if this is even close to the final design. However, the fact that it was made 3 months ago and boasts local leaders is a VERY GOOD SIGN...and quite frankly, I would owe Dr. McElroy an apology.

That is awesome and I hope Albany gets that. And with those plans...I don't see Albany sticking around in the NEC

It certainly is a quantum leap over the current facility in which, IIRC, fans literally have to watch the game from across a road. Then again, as a kid growing up in the area, "entertainment" for us meant sitting along the fence at Albany Airport and watching the planes land.

The best part of the video was listening to the mayor, a true local guy. Like me, he pronounces it "Awbany" as only natives do.

Wow, that's first class.

I'm impressed with all these new stadiums.

It's really an art form.

The video is great. Not to be a downer, but you have be kidding with the spelling of the word 'Statium' above the video ... with the amount of work that went into the video.

First off, that is not an NEC facility. It is great to see the school is thinking bigger like their fans have for years. That is an awesome looking plan.

I hate to bring it up, but who would be paying for this place? I get the strong feeling the state isn't in any position based on its massive budget deficits to help. Is the economy in Albany strong enough to give significant corporate support or are there a couple guys with deep pockets willing to help get this thing rolling?

Finally, I have seen pics of the school's current situation. But seeing it in the video is jaw-dropping. Like the video says, Albany fans deserve better. The team deserves better. Glad to see there is a vision.

very valid question on funding. We havent seen a public fundraising campaign so I have to imagine that the state is paying or there is some kind of corporate support behind it. But at this point I don't think it's clear.

Looking at those upper decks perched up on skinny columns....will fans get sea-sick on a windy day? Is "the wave" going to involve both the fans and underlying concrete? If a 75MPH wind kicks up are they going to be blown up to Saratoga? :D
