It's interesting, to me, that UCA has 6 (5 offensive & 1 defensive) players on the all conference first team which places them 2nd in the total number of first team players & yet they're picked a solid 5th among predicted finishers. I guess the parts don't always equal the sum. But they do have nice school colors.xconfusedx

I found quite a few "interesting" things that make me scratch my head...of course it's all political, and what matters is how teams finish up on the field.

Write-up out of San Marcos regarding the search for a QB at all schools not named Stephen F. Austin...

With the exception of Stephen F. Austin head coach J.C. Harper, Wright and seven other head coaches could have played volleyball around the room with the biggest inquiry.

“More than anything, there are a bunch of us in the same boat as far as looking for a quarterback,” Wright said while rocking back in his chair. “I’ve been asked about 20 times what our quarterback situation is and during lulls, I hear pretty much every other coach answering it too, but in their own words.”

Harper didn’t need to entertain the question since the Lumberjacks (a near-unanimous pick to repeat as SLC champions) are the only team in the conference with veteran leadership under center. SFA opens 2010 with preseason All-SLC first-team quarterback and Walter Payton Award Watch List member Jeremy Moses calling the shots.

And finally, there are the Bobcats.

Texas State has four quarterbacks who will compete for the starting gig come fall (Tim Hawkins, Bryan Hill, Tyler Ardnt and Andrew McCloud) and Wright made it clear he won’t name a starter until the season opener...

The Bearkats lost 27 seniors to graduation, including 15 starters, so SHSU will be fielding a young squad in the fall with only five seniors on a team that was picked seventh out of the eight teams in the Soutland Conference in a preseason coaches poll. But Fritz said the team can only get better, and he sees a positive out of having such a young team.

“We’re going to have a very young team,” he said. “In fact, I just spoke with the head coach of Lamar (University) and they’re fielding a football team for the first time since 1989, and we’re actually going to have fewer juniors and seniors than they got. But I like that because we’re able to mold them and shape them the way that we’d like to.”

Seems as though the BearKats will have a slight transition to overcome. Youth, inexperience, and new coaching staff. Classic recipe for a long season.
