Don't know if anyone saw the sad story of England going back on their word to grant visa's to the Iroquois National Lacrosse Team if the US issued temporary passports, which was done. Athletes devote years of practice and training to compete in these games only to be denied by pointy headed bureaucrats in England. Sad story.xsmhx

They weren't traveling on US passports (temporary or otherwise), they were traveling on Iroquois Confederacy passports. The US recognizes them on a limited basis, but it doesn't mean that other nations do. The Brits weren't the only ones being stubborn here; the lacrosse players refused to accept the temporary US passports offered to them.

The players should've just gotten a goofy US passport. It seems they cared more about making a stink than playing in a Lacrosse tourney.

The French and Indian War will be revived once again. The English better wear helmets cuz there is gonna be some scalping.

I had read yesterday in the paper that the players did accept the temporary US passports, but that the British then reneged on issuing temporary visas that they previously said they'ed issue if the US issued the passports. I don't disagree that pride and stubborness played a role on both sides. Just seems to me that once the US issued the temporary passports, the reversal of field by the Brits looked bad.

Which paper? I'm with Big Al - link? Yahoo/AP/WashPost/MSNBC are all showing that as of Saturday the team was still insistent on traveling on Iroquois passports...

The article was in the Sunday Morning Call, which I suspect was pretty much a AP story. I recall it noting the Sec. State Clinton had given the ok for temporary US passports, which was accepted by the Iroquois, but then the Brits wouldn't accept the temp. passports as a basis for issuing their visas.
