Announcement came out that there are about 25 seats available on the team charter plan leaving ABE on September 3 at 9 a.m. and returning after the game on Saturday night. Lehigh Football Partnership members get first dibs until 7/21 at which time any remaining seats will be offered to greater community. Package includes R/T air/ one night hotel/ all ground transport from airport/hotel/game/airport and two lunches.
I've made my reservation. Labor Day weekend, I figure I can cut out early. So where are the Drake posters here? Howabout an AGS meetup in Des Moines?

That's pretty cool. Des Moines is not exactly a destination spot but a city its size should offer some good entertainment.

Well said. I think most people plan to spend their vacations in Bethlehem Pa.

Well there's alot to see and do in DesMoines. Farms, Wells Fargo building, Insurance headquarters, biscuits and gravy. DesMoines will be a nice change from PA. There is a casino in Altoona; neighboring suburb. Enjoy the country. Miles and miles of corn and dairy farms. Iowa City; University of Iowa; is roughly 60 minutes east of DesMoines. Enjoy.

I've always thought about traveling behind ISU, but a lot of their road games are too far away for me.

Not missing the whole weekend. We'll be flying back right after the game. Expect to be home in the wee hours of Sunday. Never really been to 'heaven' ("No, this is Iowa" [Field of Dreams]) before, other than spending 30 seconds on the highway between Omaha's airport and Omaha---some weird bend that carries you into the Hawkeye State for a blink. Not sure how many Lehigh alums live in the 'greater' Des Moines area. I imagine the alumni association is working on contacting them. We could have a couple hundred supporters in the stands. I doubt we'll be bringing the "Marching 97".

You will be impressed by Drake's stadium. Great facility that would look even better if more fans would attend the games. The last time I was there, the Drake fans were very nice. I was invited over to their tailgate and even offered an adult beverage at no cost! I am hoping to return again this year. Traveling with your team to an away game on a charter is one of the best things you can do. Even though in this case, the visiting team is going down.

As PL regulars well know, fans of visiting teams are welcomed whole-heartedly at opposing league venues. Libations are shared freely at fraternity houses (at least those that remain these days), tailgates and impromptu meetings. Good-natured ribbing is met with equally witty retort, of course, and the language escalates in proportion to the beverage poured. The more you can up the ante, the better are you for it. I've never known a PL game-day celebration on any league campus where an opposing fan hasn't been invited in, offered a chair and a brew, and been invited to discuss why his team's players would not possibly have been admitted to the other school and how the referees certainly must have been paid through some alumnus' secret endowment.
I see Drake as an excellent place to spread the game-day spirit that PL regulars natively understand but might express reluctantly (and perhaps with some difficulty) in written dialogue. I expect Drake fans will get it and that Drake will become a regular opponent on PL schedules. This should be an excellent game.

For Labor Day weekend, the Lehigh Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau website lists no events for Bethlehem. xconfusedx The joy of visiting must be in the simple act of being there.
But if you don't mind a 30 minute drive, there's disc golf. Are there flights from San Diego?

Hey, sounds good to me. I plan to do a doubleheader in Iowa this day. Go to the Eastern Illinois game against Iowa in Iowa City at 11:00 Central and then drive to Des Moines for this game at 6:00 Central.

As usual Bogie beats me to the subject. We always share at tailgates, even at Lafayette. Fact best brats ever had were at LC some years back from some generous Pards. I am tempted to go to Drake game. I ran it by "SHE who must be obeyed". We'll see.

Conversion of Sader87 now has moved up to fourth place on my goals-in-life-this-week agenda. Besides . . . you went to that HC/Laf BBall semifinal, didn't you? I just know you did.

I might swing over. We have a bye week and it would be fun to meet some PL posters since the only other way we'll meet is the playoffs.

I almost did...watched online, you guys lucked out, Beinert makes that shot 2 out of 3 times.
I haven't been to a football game at Lafayette since '86...good times, did the game for WCHC, met then current 76er HC Matt Goukas at a frat party after the game (a 38-14 Sader W btw)....later thrown out of said frat party.

I was a chapter president for two years and I was on the greek council. Name the house privately to me in a PM and it will be discussed, I assure you.

I couldn't remember what frat it was if you water-boarded me...too many years (and too many parties) ago. It was well-deserved though. We didn't make too many friends at Colgate, William&Mary or West Point that autumn either.

Problem - we only did waterboarding in the back parking lot in the spring after lacrosse and baseball - almost never after football because the utility bills were too high, what with the voltage requirements and all.
It was probably Bucknell.

Yes, I did, but in the phraseology of wouldn't SHE like to go to the game with me? I knew she would decline--heck she hasn't gone to local game in four or five years. The registration website lists those already signed up. Hope you can make it.

I'm hoping a Drake poster or two can tell us where they will be located. Would be excellent to meet up.

There wasn't a lot of tailgating at Drake on the times that I've visited, so they shouldn't be hard to find. It's a nice stadium. Would be great if it didn't have the track.

Too bad you Lehigh Mountain Hawks aren't coming to Washington-Grizzly Stadium in Missoula that day, 04 Sept 2010. I think you guys would give the Griz a much better game that day that Div. II Western State. It's about time we play each other in a OOC game anyways, at least; maybe the FCS Playoffs this year. Wish both you and Drake a successful and healthy season. Good luck.

The Drake tailgate is "officially" located in the parking lot in front of the indoor tennis courts, immediately south of the football stadium and immediately east of the Basketball stadium. It will be a great weekend, first home opener I'll miss in 4 years.

I agree that would be cool. We only head 'out west' about once every 10 years or so. Last time, I think, was against St. Mary's in Callifornia in 1998 (ok 12 years) and before that was a spanking at Idaho in 1993. So this is our third trip west of the Mississippi in 17 years.
