CONWAY, Ark. - The long wait is finally over for the University of Central Arkansas Athletic Department, which was notified this week by the NCAA that the school has achieved Division I Active Membership.

The notice from the NCAA concludes a five-year transition process for UCA’s administration, players coaches and fans. All UCA athletic teams will now be eligible for postseason play in both the Southland Conference and on the national level beginning this fall.

xhurrayx Congratulations UCA!!!! You guys played a great game against us last year, and cannot wait to play you again Sept 8th, 2012...the year we become playoff eligible!! Good luck challenging for the playoffs.

Column in the local paper...congrats Bears!


A friend, who recently added Dr. to his title, talked about working on his dissertation.

It can often be tortuous, he said. There are a lot of technicalities to be aware of, many hoops to jump through.

There is a high degree of frustration in the process but great joy from the accomplishment.

That’s kind of like what University of Central Arkansas officials have gone through in the five-plus-years process on the way to the institution’s official welcome last week into NCAA Division I as an active, full-fledged member.
