BigRedInsider.com has posted a nice set of photos of the construction going on at Lamar. It's going down to the wire but they are on schedule to be ready for their first home game in September.

NM, I am an idiot. They have a lot of work to do in the next few months if they want to be ready by the home opener!

Looks good, Cards!

I was a bit worried when you guys started sprucing up the current stadium, but so far, so good!

The stadium will hold about 16,000. It originally had 17,500 seats but to make it ADA compliant they had to take out seats. Their first home game is September 11th so they have a little under two months to finish it. The athletic department keeps insisting they'll be done in time, but it takes only one hurricane to screw things up.

In as much as I despise you ppl @ lamar university :D, I have to give credit where credit is due. That's a really nice stadium.

I hope to hell none of my tax $$$$ is going to support your university, btw. :D ;)

Tax money cannot be used for athletics in Texas. BTW, what's your beef with Lamar?

I wasn't speaking athletics although I know some of my personal tax $$$$ in this state goes to your educational coffers, somewhere. Can't get around it. Others, like tamu-b/cs:ut-austin:tx tech:et al, I've come to accept but for the life of me, I have this deeeeeeeeep disposition for you ppl in beaumont. It's a long story. :)

Just take the compliment. Very, very nice stadium.

Looks great! Just curious, how much did the project cost and what all was included? Our Football Center, 15,000 seat stadium and practice facilities are $45 million for comparison.

It's close to a $30 million project. They basically gutted the stadium and redid everything. The press box was rebuilt earlier after Hurricane Rita tore it apart in 2005. The stadium was originally built in 1964 for a little over $1 million and designed to expand to 50K. With the Montagne Center on one end and the new athletic complex on other, 30K is the maximum now.
