Bethune Cookman is going to net 'well over a million dollars" for FBS contests the next three years against Miami (2011, 2012) and Central Florida (2013).

FYI - the article states the MEAC schedule is "dropping down to seven games in 2011, B-CU can also try to add annual "classic games."

DAYTONA BEACH -- Bethune-Cookman University's Wildcats have never scheduled one of college football's top-tier teams, and now that they're starting, they're not exactly dipping their toes in the water.

Athletics Director Lynn Thompson confirmed Monday the Wildcats will play the University of Miami -- one of the nation's most storied football programs -- in 2011 and 2012 and renew an old rivalry against another Division I Football Bowl Subdivision team, the University of Central Florida, in 2013.

"If you're going to swim with fish in the open ocean, you might as well swim with whales," Thompson said. "When we started looking at guarantee games, our intent was to get the best opponent we could play."

In the 11-game seasons, 7 conference games seems about right if you're able to consistently schedule good games. 7 games sucks for those that struggle to fill schedules with an 8 game conference slate.

The 7-game schedule is a bit confusing. With as many teams as there are in the league, I would figure they would go an eight-game schedule (four home, four away). Then, you would still have three out of conference games. You can schedule an FBS (or two annually) plus whatever other games (Classics, HBCU rivalries, etc) within three games as you see fit.

Either way, the MEAC got this one right by avoiding filling up their slate with as many conference games as possible and pulling off the blunder that the SWAC has had with the SCG and nine-game slate (which makes more sense based on the Legacy Bowl).
