Open Letter to the HBCU Conferences - Please Post & Pass Along

The following letter was sent to each of the HBCU Conference Commissioners on Thursday 24 June 2010 . As an Alum & Fan I was concerned about the direction in which HBCU sports were headed. As a business man I am disappointed with the process and conduct as a whole in regards to the way that ” our business” was being managed. With that in mind and in an effort to assist with the correction of our path I reached out to the leaders of the CIAA, MEAC, SIAC, & SWAC. This gesture was to offer assistance in creating an aggressive plan that will benefit ALL HBCU’s athletically and academically!!! I am pleased to say that I have gotten positive, open-minded responses from most of the commissioners and we are now into the next phase of planning a summit.

Wow. That sounds like complete crap. I hope for the sake of the FAMU's and others that have higher aspirations that they either say no or change conferences if this happens.

This guy's argument is picking up steam, at least as far as attention. Sports Network ran it...

Eatonville, FL (Sports Network) - A broadcasting executive has sent a proposal to the four conference commissioners of the nation's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) that calls for unity among its football programs.

In a letter dated June 24, Roy M. Eavins II, president and CEO of the Black College Sports Network and JERICHO Broadcast Networks, invited key administrators from the Football Championship Subdivision programs of the Mid- Eastern Athletic Conference and Southwestern Athletic Conference, and the Division II programs of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to a future meeting in Eatonville.

Interesting... common interest and common goals should lead to cooperative efforts in athletics. Similar to how the BCS was formed and similar to the Expansion talks of the Pac 10 and Big 10 in recent past weeks.
