Watching the world cup left me wondering. Who would make the list of the most 'famous" SoCon alums? My standard, I think, would be that the player must be fairly well known amongst the average fan of a particular sport (not just SoCon or FCS fans).
Here are a few names that came to mind, feel free to add:
Terrell Owens, UTC, football
Randy Moss, Marshall, football
Dexter Coakley, App State, football
Clint Dempsey, Furman, soccer
Ricardo Clark, Furman, soccer
Kevin Martin, WCU, basketball
Stephen Curry, Davidson, basketball
Brad Faxon, Furman, golf
Dottie Pepper, Furman, golf

Thompson Usiyan - App State Soccer
Melissa Morrison-Howard - App State Track and Field
Mary Jane Harrelson - App State Track and Field
And some guy named Armanti Edwards is rather well known.

I debated on whether to include Armanti Edwards. He's a guy that I think is very well known around the FCS circles, but I don't think he's gotten to the point of being known to the average football fan around the country. It's the same reason I haven't included Jerome Felton. Felton was a top flight FCS player and is even an NFL starter right now, but if you aren't familiar with the Detroit Lions or have an interest in NFL fullbacks, you probably haven't heard of him.

Beth Daniel and Betsy King, I think there are only 23 members of the LPGA Hall of Fame and Furman has two of them.

Didn't even think about him. Hard to argue against an NBA all star who is still the only D-1 player to put up 100 points in a game.

Are you talking about players from current SoCon memeber schools or all-time SoCon member schools? I saw Randy Moss in your first listing, so if we include historical SoCon members, that would spread this thing wide open.

Samford wasn't in the SoCon then, but their most notable alums include:
Bobby Bowden, Football (Former Florida State coach)
Jimbo Fisher, Football (Current FSU Coach)
Cortland Finnegan, Football (Tennessee Titans)
