He's incredible. Eight innings last night, two hits, one earned run and 5 Ks. All that from a 47 year old man xeekxxeekxxeekx!!! He's been the oldest player in the big leagues for each of the past three seasons!!! And now, he's 8-6 on the year with a 4.43 ERA-not too shabby. His big league career began in 1986-I thought only knuckleballers or Nolan Ryan could pitch that long.
The talk on sportscenter is about how he has now tied the record for most home runs ever allowedand it's only a matter of time until that record is his, but take a look at his stats (wins, strikeouts, innings pitched, etc.) over at baseball reference (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/moyerja01.shtml) and he looks like a top 40 all time pitcher to me. He probably won't make the hall of fame, but I can see him finishing with 280+ wins in a career that already spans parts of 4 decades.
Mad respect!!!xthumbsupxxthumbsupxxthumbsupx

Other than his recent implosion in Boston, Moyer has been terrific. The epitome of a 'craft', 'cause he obviously isn't blowing anyone away. I still think he could make HOF...eventually, once people appreciate the accomplishments over such a long career. He's already in a lot of elite company.

I bet his odds for the HOF have gone up quite a bit in recent years because he has been able to adapt and still be very good at what he does. That, tied in with the HOF voters stance on steroids he has a very good and realistic shot at Cooperstown!
I was at the game when he got lit up by Boston...to see what he has done in his two starts since, certainly impresses me on his turn around ability at his age.

Since turning 35 he has over 180 wins. Most in history for that stat. Wily ol' vet.

I'd love to see him still pitching at age 50. That would be the coolest thing ever.

I saw Moyer almost throw a no-hitter his rookie year at the Vet. He had a 'no-no' going into the 9th and the crowd was cheering for the 'hometown' kid, only to see a Phillie break it up in the 9th...of course, everyone booed.:D

Well, it looks like it's all over for the wily vet. There's a pretty good he'll require Tommy John surgery after getting a sprained ulnar collateral ligament and a strained flexor pronator tendon. Looks like a very good chance that he threw the last pitch of his pro career Tuesday.

I'd like to see a Julio Franco/Jamie Moyer matchup in an oldtimers game.

Hey Julio Franco was the Bomb! Moyer said today he's not retiring. If the Phils bring him back next year it'll be on the cheap. That being said he's had a bunch of up's since the Phils got him.

Have they determined whether he needs surgery? I think if he undergoes the knife, it will be over. If he can recover with 2 mos of treatment and rehab, then he may still give it go....Hell, Pedro said he's coming back in 2011, too!
