I told the UTSA folks this, but they are lucky to have the AD that they have.
If Hickey believes an exemption possibility is out there for them if they are unable to get conference affiliation at the onset, you know very well that she has talked to people at the highest level of the NCAA food chain.
If the rule passes — it won't be voted on until April — Hickey said she hopes the program will be advanced enough to earn an exemption.
Either way, that rule and whether it passes or not, will be very critical to follow...

And you know what won't hurt UTSA's chances at moving up rapidly? If they can move forward with this proposed idea to have a baseball stadium - shared with the San Antonio Missions...
The 125 acres is nestled against Loop 1604 between Farris Stadium and Babcock Road. Level and unremarkable, largely populated by scrub brush, mesquite and cactus, the landscape doesn't exactly stir the soul.
But for UTSA athletic director Lynn Hickey, it's a foundation for the future.
Hickey sees the property, just down the road from the burgeoning university, as the would-be home of the state's most ambitious athletic complex. Already poised to host construction of track and field and soccer facilities next spring, long-term plans have the site someday accommodating football practice and soccer fields, tennis courts and a wide array of other sports.
