SO well deserved. I wish more folks could have seen him play. Amazing. Really happy for him and his family.

totally agree...he was great for FCS football. Hope he and Notre Dame grad Jimmy Clausen star together for years!!!xnodxxnodxxnodx

I had been telling people for some time that Armanti would go in the third round. I thought that either Carolina or New England were the most likely destinations for him, so it is ironic that his draft slot was traded by the Patriots to the Panthers to enable the Panthers to pick AE in the third round.
The draft has gone pretty much as I expected for FCS players thus far. Good news for Ducasse and Roberts, as well as Edwards. They all should be impact players with their respective teams.

5th, actually (after Bradford, Tebow, Clausen, and, just barely, McCoy).
But still! Good stuff!

I doubt that they're looking at him as a quarterback. Not saying they shouldn't, but I doubt it just because they have a pretty set stereotype of what a quarterback should be like and he doesn't fit it. They'll deviate some; otherwise Drew Brees wouldn't be playing quarterback in the NFL. But I don't think they'll deviate enough to give Edwards a real shot.
I wrote that before I looked up his NFL.com profile, which predictably includes this statement:
"He is an undersized quarterback that will need to be projected to another position to take advantage of his speed, quickness and athleticism."

Yeah BUT. He will have a chance with the wildcat and as long as he develops as a QB, while he's being used elswhere, he will be on a NFL team and may get the chance to play QB at some point. That's when he needs to make the most of it! May take some time seeing how Pathers have their QB of the future but he has to stay sharp as a QB so when injuries happen or a game is out of hand AE is ready! Good luck AE.

He is a great player and will do well no matter where he plays. Good Luck Armanti!

I think a wildcat is certainly possible considering DeAngelo Williams has taken direct snaps for the Panthers often. Definitely a lot of trickery potential by combining him and Armanti

No need for doubt. There's no mystery. They drafted him as a receiver and possible returner.

A bit dissapointed I have to see him twice every year when they play the Falcons.
Has Edwards ever returned kicks?

You can stay home. You don't have to watch.
I can understand that YOU have seen enough of him the last four years.

Nope.
With the Panthers, he's going to have to change his game a bit, since they're going to ask him to concentrate of playing receiver, something he did full-time in high school. But he's never returned a kick or a punt in a game, not even as a kid, and that could be a big part of his role as well.
"I'm not scared at all," Edwards said of special teams duties.
"It's just something I'm going to have to get used to."

Congrats to Armanti.. I think its great he is getting the opportunity he has more than earned.. I did think he would be left behind like other FCS greats. I wish him the best and think he will prosper.

Truth.
I will enjoy watching Curtis Lofton square up on him though. The kid needs to get hit at some point. Might as well be now.

He's not the only one. Furman didn't lay the wood to Jayson Foster until the last time the two teams met, and even then it was on the second to last play of the game.

This is great. I always said whoever drafted Armanti would get a jersey sale from me. The fact that he went to a team who's jersey I already want makes it so much better. My only regret is that The Panthers visited the Chargers last year, and they won't be coming back to San Diego again for many years to come. So I'll have to take in a game in NC to see him play.

I would say that we never got a hit on him but we all went over that in several heated threads on here. I hope he does well with Carolina and brings some excitement to that dreadful offense in 2010.
