If Lamar gets this transfer that would be the fifth transfer player from an FBS conference.
DB Ben Wells He played his high school ball at Ozen in Beaumont.
We already have from FBS
DE Jacody Coleman (Iowa)
TE Billy Chavis (Texas A&M)
LB Jordan Garrett (Tulane)
OT Ari Tatum (UofH)
And FCS Transfers
DB Steven Murray- Sesay (Northeastern)
WR Van Franks (Grambling)
RB Kwabena Asante (Hofstra)
I think Woodard is trying to make us competitive from the start not sure how this will work out for us.

Hey nice to see a Lamar fan here. We'll see you at the GA Dome in November!

Lamar has loaded up on transfers in a big way - JUCO, FCS, FBS and Div II...
Not sure if it's the right move, but I guess we'll have to wait and see how exactly Woodard redshirts. I think Lamar has done much everything in an 'accelerated' way, which could come back to haunt them for a few years...

Terror I think you are right about doing everything in an accelerated manner. But the folks of Southeast Texas are not great fans unless we put a winning product on the field. I think if we really stink it up you will see a major attendance drop in our 2nd and 3rd season.

I've said from the start that the first game with my Cowboys is a little scary. I think Lamar will be competitive this year.

It certainly looks like they are trying to load the deck with transfers, if they gel with talent they already have, this could be a competitive team that may sneak up on someone.

Yes, and the opening game with a new QB at McNeese could be an adventure. Fortunately, the entire defense returns.

Having an experienced defense behind any new QB is huge, they can help save a lot of mistakes. Plus, you don't have to make the kid do the impossible, you can break him in slowly. I'm just interest to see if Asante the Hofstra transfer gets time on the field, i liked the way he ran in his limited role for us.

I hope we suprise some teams especially SHSU (Just for Terror). I think we are going to have a major effect on McNeese. They have not signed nearly the people from SE Texas that they used to and this used to be their recruiting hotspot.

It will be as it used to be. LU will get a good share and McNeese will get some too. If I recall correctly, neither was very good at the time Lamar dropped FB. McNeese went up after that. Was it just the coaches doing recruiting then, or will the two again keep each other from being really good? "The mill wheels of time grind exceeding slow, yet they grind exceeding fine."

I was not around when Lamar had a team in the 80's. I was 8 and a big fan of the Montana Griz. That was actually about the time I really started to follow D1-AA football when Dave Dickenson was the QB and they beat Marshall for the championship. A guy from the town I grew up in played on that team. He was a db named Blaine McElmurry.

Coach Woodard has left a few scholarships open for these types of players. There's a lot of players from the area who don't get enough playing time at a FBS school and now they can transfer back to Lamar and finish up their career. That is one of the advantages of staying FCS, otherwise Lamar would have hard time getting these players out of high school or getting them to transfer and sit out a year.
On a related note, the athletic complex is coming along nicely and they a suppose to start installing the field turf any day now.

Stadium looks like it will be nice. Looking forward to the first game. I hope that Lamar starting FCS football doesn't hurt our recruiting in that area too bad.

Lamar is doing a good thing here. Why wait to load up on talent if you have kids that are willing to transfer and play right away? GSU has done the same thing. Our list of transfers include:
Bailey Woods (http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Bailey-Woods-44425) - TE (Auburn)
Sidney Haynes (http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Sidney-Haynes-45670) - WR (UCF)
Ben Jacoby (http://rivals.yahoo.com/florida/football/recruiting/player-Ben-Jacoby-61223) - C (Ball State)
Joseph Gilbert (http://georgiatech.scout.com/a.z?s=140&p=8&c=1&nid=2494684) - OL (Georgia Tech)
Clyde Yandell (http://michigan.scout.com/a.z?s=162&p=8&c=1&nid=2263470) - OL (Georgia Tech)
Notable JUCOs:
LaDeven Kirkland (http://rivals.yahoo.com/bwi/football/recruiting/player-Ladeven-Kirkland-56583) - OL (had offers from SEC, ACC and Big East coming out of HS)
Jake Muasau (http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Jake-Muasau-56358) - OLB (had an offer from Nebraska coming out of HS/his brother also plays at GSU and had an offer from Arizona)
I look forward to seeing Lamar at the Dome this year. It will be our last home game of the season.

How are you guys still supporting men's basketball and baseball then? Those are your two flagship sports and they have gone south...for quite some time!
I heard Tubbs did not have the guts to fire Roc and Roc had to tell him, if you want to fire me - fire me!

McNeese is not going to have a problem recruiting. They already do well in Louisiana and are probably the second or third team FCS or FBS in the recruiting rankings there. They'll lose out a bit in Texas, but I doubt that Lamar will have a tremendous impact on the McNeese program, it will be more that we have some more programs in the state (UIW, Lamar, UTSA) that will have more of impact than anything...
As others have said, if LU gels with their clusterbleep of talent, they'll be tough. If not, they'll be hurting this year and could be hurting for the next few...

Terror, we are the attendance leader in basketball in the SLC but the crowds we get now are a far cry from the crowds we got in our hoops glory days (and you are right even when we suck in other sports we still put SHSU's crowds to shame, I believe we still averaged a higher attendance than Sam who won the conference in MBB). If you look back at when we tied for the conference championship we actually had some good crowds.. In our little area if we win the fans show in force.. PS. We just swept SHSU in baseball so we must not be that bad (just picking a bit)..
Also on the recruiting front, I think we are putting a damper on a lot of teams recruiting. I think only SFA is the only FCS team that picked up any players from the Southeast Texas area and as you can tell we have a lot of talent in this area.
