VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) -- Valparaiso center Kenny Harris collapsed during a workout and was hospitalized Tuesday in critical condition.

Kenny Harris, a 6-foot-10 sophomore, was in the athletic center's weight room when he fell ill Monday afternoon, athletic director Mark LaBarbera said. He was taken to Porter hospital, where he was still being treated Tuesday, spokesman Andrew Snyder said.

LaBarbera said the family has asked that no further information be released on Harris.

Harris has fought weight problems and health issues since he enrolled at Valparaiso. His weight ballooned to more than 400 pounds by the start of his freshman year. He was listed on last season's team roster at 310 pounds. He also has had operations on his gall bladder and for a herniated disc.

Harris averaged nine points and five rebounds in 11 games last season as the Crusaders went 15-15
