TT,
Don't think this is going to happen, would think Marlin would be on Auburn list (if Tubby Smith doesn't leave Minnesota)
Sam Houston State men's basketball coach Bob Marlin has been contacted by Carr Sports Associates about the UL job, a source close to Marlin told The Daily Advertiser on Saturday.
The source said that Marlin is expected to listen, but the process might not go past a phone interview. He also has been linked with possible openings at Houston and SMU. The Sporting News recently listed Marlin as a mid-major coach that could make a jump to a school in one of the big six conferences.

The Daily Advertiser has reported several times in the last few days that Marlin would not go to ULL because he wants a 'bigger job' and sees ULL as more of a lateral move...
Some sources have said that the search firm UL has hired, Carr Sports Associates out of Gainesville, Fla., has completed the first round of interviews. Sam Houston head coach Bob Marlin was not included in that group and might not even interview. Sources say that he is interested in a "bigger" job. The Bearkats lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Baylor on Thursday. Bill Carr of Carr Sports Associates has declined to discuss the coaching search.

All of the media I talked to this weekend think ULL is going after Butch Pierre and that they would not hire a Marlin, Kaspar type. I think Marlin's name emerges in the Auburn mix.

Richard Justice says Marlin is interviewing at Auburn on Monday and that he's in the mix at Houston...

Most of the ULL folks are talking Tim Floyd (why) and Butch Pierre (good recruiter, but why has he never landed a head coaching job???) ... know some folks who are pushing for Billy Kennedy (current Murray State coach and former Southeastern Louisiana coach) .... he's from New Orleans and his older kids live in Lafayette.
If I were him, I wouldn't make the move as that is in the same line as Marlin leaving Sam Houston State for Lafayette.

The longevity of basketball coaches at UL-L since Beryl Shipley is not impressive.

Tim Floyd is also starting to make some head way into the Houston situation...
Marlin and UNT head coach Johnny Jones are now in the mix at Auburn, as well.

Katz says Barbee (UTEP) will go to Auburn. Some of the same candidates who have been mentioned at UH, ULL will be in the mix at UTEP...
UTEP may look to former Miners assistant Tim Floyd, a former head coach at USC and a current New Orleans Hornets assistant, as well as former UTEP, Texas A&M and Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie and Sam Houston State's Bob Marlin. Arkansas assistant and former Arizona State head coach Rob Evans and Marquette assistant Tony Benford may also be in the mix.

Yep...Marlin to ULL.
Sam Houston State’s Bob Marlin removed himself for consideration for the University of Houston head coaching job.
One person familiar with the search said Marlin accepted the head coaching job at Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday morning and is meeting with his team in the afternoon to explain the situation to his players.

Or wait, has he?
Pending the outcome of this weekend's meeting with UL, the university plans to release a statement.
The Houston Chronicle has reported that Marlin removed himself from consideration for the University of Houston job and accepted the Cajuns opening on Friday morning, but sources close to the situation say that the decision is not yet final by UL or Marlin.

Further news...another media source in Lafayette is reporting that he'll meet with them this weekend...
Actually, ESPN1420 has learned that Marlin will meet with UL President Dr. Joe Savioe on Sunday to make if official. And unless "T-Joe" just hates him, he's our guy.
T-Joe isn't going to hate him.

But, the Huntsville Item saying it's a done deal...
HUNTSVILLE — Bearkats basketball coach Bob Marlin is leaving Sam Houston State. A week after taking his Sam Houston State team to the NCAA tournament, Marlin accepted the head coaching position at Louisiana-Lafayette, sources told The Huntsville Item on Friday afternoon.

The beat writer for the Lafayette Advertiser says in his blog that the offer is made and accepted, and Marlin has talked with his team. Marlin will meet with President Savoie Sunday and the PC is Monday.

I dont' see SHSU as a big place for current head coaches to want to goto. IT would make the most sense to promote Hardin. But if an assistant from a Big 12 or even Texas based CUSA school is interested, won't hurt to listen.

Hardin has been attached to Marlin at the hip for years. If Hardin wants to run his own show and not follow Marlin, he'll have every chance to become the head coach...
If not, SHSU is a relatively attractive 'low major' (let's be honest here) and may get some pretty good prospective coaches to apply.
People were not thrilled with the pick of Marlin and well, that pick ended up pretty well...
