More information on the deal...

Prairie View will receive all the revenue from ticket sales for the game but will pay the State Fair a portion since the game ticket will admit attendees to the fair. The State Fair will receive the parking revenues with some area stipulated for PVU and Southern VIP's and tailgaters.

"We are moving our home game to Shreveport, which is a shorter drive for Southern, so they won't be receiving any revenue," Washington said. "It's just a road conference game for them."

The city of Shreveport will receive concession revenues and SPAR will provide game management personnel. With limited parking available in the lot due to the fair, off-site parking with a shuttle service will be available, according to Tice.

The game is a two-game deal with the 2011 game slated to feature Prairie View and Jackson State. Washington said his school has an option for two more seasons if they choose to play the games here.

SHREVEPORT — It’s official: Southern and Prairie View will play football at Independence Stadium this fall.

Coaches and athletic directors from both schools will take part in a news conference at 2:30 p.m. today to discuss the move.

SU coach Stump Mitchell and Athletic Director Greg LaFleur will be on hand, as well as their Prairie View counterparts, Henry Frazier III and Fred Washington.

The game is part of a two-year agreement between Prairie View, the Shreveport Regional Sports Authority and State Fair of Louisiana for the Panthers to play in Shreveport.

The game is on 'shaky ground'...

Shreveport officials on Tuesday pointed to communication problems that they say put a planned major sporting event on shaky ground.

The City Council unanimously rejected a proposed contract for the Shreveport Regional Sports Authority to host the State Fair of Louisiana Football Game, also known as the Shreveport Classic.

If approved, the agreement would have allowed the use of Independence Stadium plus the authority’s $5 million in liability insurance, among other services.

Without contracts and face-to-face meetings, the Oct. 23 matchup between Prairie View A&M and Southern University, according to the mayor and City Council, won’t run smoothly.
