Who is going to be in the mix at ULL?

And do you think UALR is going to cut their coach?

CollegeSportsInfo
March 9th, 2010, 01:10 PM
ULL is a fresh situation, not even a day old. What we do know is that they will only hire a coach with D1 head coach experience. So logic dictates that they will likely look to the Southland, A-Sun, OVC, etc. Pasternack of UNO could be in play too. But your boy Marlin might be an attractive candidate.

Not sure about UALR. Need to dig up contract details to see how many years are left.

And what does 'Tournament Tom' at Houston have to do to save his job?

3/11/10: Iowa Coach Todd Lickliter rumored to be resigning this week

CollegeSportsInfo

No news on UALR on my end. Been some other positions that have been a bigger focus for me. As for Houston, it seems like there will be a change. The time is ripe with Calipari now out of CUSA for a year and Barbee potentially moving to a BCS conference. Sadly, the guy they want the most is now the head coach at Memphis. Had they come 1 year earlier, Pastner would be coaching Houston right now.

Iowa hiring McCaffrey is cool. Nice to see another coach who got his first HC gig at Lehigh making the big climb. Making over $1M year on a multiyear deal, he better get some quick results. McCaffrey took Lehigh to Big Dance in 1988 when Lehigh gave the Mark Macon lead Temple Owls a big scare in the first round.

I'm not a fan of the move. I just feel that McCaffery would be better in the Big East or the ACC. He fits the profile better. I just worry he could face a similar fate as Lickliter did...and McCaffery is more misplaced.

Better in the Big East how? From what I read, McCaffrey is bringing a more up-tempo game than Lickliter, which is something Iowa fans have been hollering about for a while. Also, he seems to have the alumni players on board, which is huge around these parts -- they definitely were not welcome during the Alford and Lickliter years, probably because they were a reminder of past success compared to current failures.

Frankly, I think McCaffery may have been a steal for Iowa -- there are some real facility issues that don't make it the plum job it used to be in the 80s & 90s. If this turns out to be true, I think you can call thank Kirk Ferentz -- he has proven that if you can win at Iowa, they will deify you in these parts and pay you a pantload of money to stay.

In short, there is enormous upside to coaching at Iowa. Probably moreso than most other schools.

Yes, he's been one of the candidates for almost a month now. BTW, there was no offer made yesterday, confirmed by UNCW.

4/7/10: Wake Forest Fires Dino Gaudio

Something is odd here. Why now, when so many other moves have happened? Just a theory, but maybe Wake Forest wants Gregg Marshall and fears Clemson getting him? Seems like there must be someone out there that Wake wants and fears will be gone, but I could be wrong.

Here's wishing Coach B success at Clemson. It'll be a step up for him, and a new challenge. Good luck Coach, and thank you for 4 great years! xhurrayx

I'm glad Donlan is set to stick around. At least we'll have some continuity and a good chance of success (even if we have to play Butler at least twice...).

Actually, TT, not all those people have interviewed. The name at the top of the list from ym source initially was O'Conner. But some other names have come into play of late so ti stands that CU will be doing more interviews.
