Sources inform me that SHSU was caught off-guard by the Rollison news when it broke, as was Auburn. May end up not happening...


Despite Facebook statuses and other media reports that say otherwise, Tyrik Rollison is still with the team, Gene Chizik said today.

“He’s still in school and he’s concentrating solely on his academics. Again, that’s where his concentration is,“ Chizik said. “We’ll see how it unfolds at the end of the semester. Right now, it’s an academic thing.“

Chizik said the door was still open for Rollison to return to the team and would be academically eligible as far as the NCAA was concerned.

Asked what he thought of the aforementioned statuses and reports that said Rollison was transferring to Sam Houston State, Chizik dismissed it as “ external hearsay.“

“He’s in school at Auburn and he’s focusing on his academics,“ Chizik said. “That’s what I know.“

Another player planning to forward his career elsewhere is quarterback Tyrik Rollison, the hyped 2009 signee who hasn't practiced since November. Chizik said Rollison remains on the team and is eligible, but won't be par*ticipating in football-related activities.

Rollison's father told the Montgom*ery Advertiser last month that his son was headed for Sam Houston State.

"We're going to play it by ear. I don't pay any attention to any of the external hearsay," Chizik said. "He's in school at Auburn, he's focusing on his aca*demics and that's what I know. As the end of the semester unfolds, obviously we'll know more."

Auburn quarterback Tyrik Rollison has enrolled at Sam Houston State and will play football for the Bearkats this fall. The former Sulphur Springs High School standout redshirted last season and will have four years of eligibility left. Rollison threw for 4,728 yards and 51 touchdowns and rushed for 1,094 yards in 2008 while leading Sulphur Springs to the Class 4A Division II state championship. He was ranked as one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the nation when he signed with Auburn out of high school.

We'll keep our fingers crossed...

One of the good things about this one is that he has FOUR years of eligibility, so it is like getting a kid straight out of high school (albeit it with a redshirt year already used). His top play making WR is already in Huntsville from his days in high school and hopefully we can have some consistency at the QB position for a few years. Sure helped SFA go from 0-11 to SLC champs, didn't it?
