That's a lot of triples. Must have hit a lot of them to dead center in the Polo Grounds.

Babe Ruth ran pretty well, for a fat man.

Baseball Reference online has him listed at 6'2" and 215 pounds, he was fatter in the 1930's when most of the film of him was taken.

I was thinking about Yaz in 1967 when I saw the thread title, but then I saw Babe's stats for 1921! xeekx Different era, but FWIW here at Yaz' stats. The number of game winning hits, catches and throws aren't measured in these stats. It was a truly special season and the last Triple Crown IIRC. Spent many an evening listening to Red Sox games on a transistor radio that Summer. xnodx xnodx Attended a game with my Dad at Yankee Stadium that I think the Sox won 2-1 or 3-2 with a Yaz homer. It is more than 40 years ago after all. ;) xrotatehx :D :D :D :D

Not many triples hit in Fenway Park, usually need a wacky bounce or flat out lightning speed. I do recall the Polo Grounds from the Mets early days. OMG, talk about a deep centerfield!!!!! xrotatehx

Looking out on the web, I found one site that had the original Center Field dimension at 455' and the final at 475'. On another site I saw a few years where Center Field was 505'!!! xeekx xeekx xeekx

Kind of amazing how close to Yankee Stadium the Polo Grounds were. Just across the river!!

I was paraphrasing a quote attributed to Ty Cobb about Ruth. xpeacex

Great season for Yaz. A Friend of mine and his buddies drove from Omaha to Boston to see Yaz's last game. I did manage to see his last appearance at the HHH Metrodome, and watched him early at batting practice that day.

What a year that was for Yaz.
