The flip-flopping of SFA and Lamar will come to an end per Bob West of the Port Arthur News (http://www.panews.com/sportsbobwest/local_story_044213314.html).

The two schools have flip-flopped between SLC West and SLC East every two years since the league expanded to 12 (with the additions to UCA and A&M-CC).

This move makes sense in many ways.

Lamar gets McNeese in a home-and-home in all the sports where the division's matter, just like SHSU gets SFA in the same predicament. Sure, SFA has something with NWST - but I really think that their rivalry there is primarily football-based.

Lamar also gets the advantage of being in the weaker of the divisions, based on the records in the sports where divisional play is there. Lamar men's basketball has slipped tremendously and the only way for them to keep up with the programs that have emerged is to be in the SLC East and compete with schools for who their financial advantage is widening over.

An excerpt from the story...

Cardinal basketball coach Steve Roccaforte probably wishes the move had already been made, seeing as how the West is so dominant. Entering Saturday’s games, teams in the West owned a 17-4 edge over Eastern teams in conference play. The Cardinals were 2-3 vs. the West and 3-1 against the East
