I'm going to say Texas is going to stop Alabama's running game and I don't think Alabama's passing game can really function that well unless the other team is thinking about the run. Texas's passing game, on the other hand, can do that.
Of course McCoy is hurt now.

Alabama is extremely lucky. The game could be almost getting out of hand for them right now but 1) Texas had an illegal formation on what would've been a TD and 2) McCoy is hurt.

This is terrible because it's pretty clear that Texas is better on the line of scrimmage. Really awful that they get their head cut off like that. Again: Alabama is EXTREMELY lucky.
I've alway said that luck plays a role in football and this is a classic example of it.

This game is going to be a dud unless McCoy can come back. This reminds me of the Tennessee-FSU title game in '99. FSU lost their QB before that game and had no shot.

You can't say that. This was a game despite McCoy being out before that last screw up before half. The QB has thrown a pick 6 and an int while they were driving. Alabama wasn't exactly lighting it up.

At least USC just beat Oklahoma. In this case you've got this potentially great matchup and a quarterback for one of the teams who's one of the best ever statistically in college football gets knocked out of the game in the first series. And his backup is a freshman who's never seen any meangful action.
It's like if you waited with baited breath to watch what was supposed to be a great boxing match then one boxer breaks his right arm when he throws his first punch. And he's right handed.
I mean, really...what is Alabama winning this game going to prove now? They'll be the BCS champion but it'll be over a Texas team playing "without its right arm." It has effects throughout. The defense is affected because the offense can't stay on the field. Plus there's the psychological effect. It's hard to stay intense on defense when you don't believe the offense can provide any support.

I'll defend the UT backup in this case. He's missed a few passes but that pick 6 wasn't his fault. UT's defense can't stop Bama's run game. Sucks to be Texas but I didn't think they would be close anyway (they haven't seen a defense this good or an offense that will run at you this well)

I don't know. Hindsight is 20:20 and I don't recall ever seeing an interception on that play before in my life. It's generally viewed as a very safe, conservative play. Texas was trying to get in position to go ahead and take a shot at the end zone. They're going to have to take some chances to have a shot.
And Alabama's defense isn't as good as Nebraska's. At least I don't think so. Just imagine what Nebraska's defense would've done to Texas with that Freshman quarterback in there.

Granted, we don't know for sure... but, it was reported as a sprain to his nonthrowing shoulder. He's been on the sidelines clapping and such. It's the National Championship game.
I don't think a sprain shoulder puts him at risk of seriously injuring anything. He'd be more likely to have his knee blown out or something... and he shouldn't have played the game at all or the whole season in that case.
Armanti played 3 1/2 games this year at crunch time with a sprained MCL. That's much more risky to play on... Was that the wrong decision? I never remember people criticizing App for letting him play.

You know, I know they're not doing it on purpose, but after the onside kick recovery the officials missed two interference penalties on Alabama. Then they call interference on Texas when the ball wasn't catchable.

What I think I heard is that that's probably what it is but they can't be sure until he's further evaluated. That's why I'm giving Brown credit. He's in a situation where he could let McCoy play and nobody would criticize him for it. But because there's some uncertainty he's not taking any chances. Under these circumstances that's really admirable.

It's McCoy's choice. He's his own man. He decided to come back to college for this moment. To deprive him of that doesn't make any sense. If McCoy wanted to play Brown would be a fool to stand in his way knowing that the tests have come back negative. Would Montana have ever become Montana without the chicken soup recovery? I don't know but it showed what he was made of. I want someone who will lay it all on the line. Would Mac Brown do the same thing if the injury was to one of the OL?

I totally agree. I could not believe the call at the time and felt that would be a difference maker. Texas' defense was playing very well and I felt if they could keep it close the frosh QB could get his legs under him in the second half they could still pull it off. Has the starting QB ever gone out in the first quarter of a super bowl or national title game? Has one ever missed substantial time? The closest thing i remember was Carson Palmer in the '05 playoffs. Chris Weinke got hurt before the '98 Championship game forcing Outzen to play. He was dreadful. Montana's injury was late in a conference title game.

Bama definitely would have rather beaten a Texas team with McCoy than without him. There are too many questions now.
That play effected the play calling by both teams. The game would have been very different. Remember Bama only gave up 11 points a game and 241 yards per game during the regular season. Texas probably was not going to be scoring tons of points anyways. But we will never know.Too bad.
Glad to see that Gilbert had a decent 2nd half though (save the last few minutes). For a true freshman with almost no playing time all year to have to go in the game after probably limited to no practice time against that Bama defense. Damn. Horrible first half (with absolutely 0 help by his wide receivers - Int for a TD was not his fault) to a decent 2nd half.
Too many what ifs so for this year I am just going to say Roll Tide Roll.

Following a 37-21 loss to Alabama in which he suffered a game-ending injury just five plays in and was forced to watch the Crimson Tide defense take advantage of his absence, Texas quarterback Colt McCoy told reporters that the heart-breaking defeat fulfilled a depressing dream he has had since he was a boy growing up in New Mexico. "I think every kid, whether he is playing high school football or a pickup game with friends, imagines what it would be like to one day lead your team to the Rose Bowl, stand on the sidelines, and then helplessly watch your team get dismantled on the grandest stage imaginable," said a teary-eyed McCoy, adding that the irony of never missing a game due to injury until the most important game of his life was just icing on the cake. "This was a dreadful storybook ending. I really couldn't ask for more." McCoy added that he plans on fulfilling another of his wretched boyhood dreams by being a bust in the upcoming NFL draft and having a largely disappointing NFL career
