Last year there was a thread like this and I thought I would bring it back.. who are your likely starters for 2010 at this point and (if possible) give a little blurb about each.

Villanova 2010 Starters:

Offense:
QB: Sr. Chris Whitney- Probably the most accomplished quarterback Villanova has ever had. The team's leading returning rusher. He's 25-5 as a starting quarterback with a national championship.
RB: Sr. Aaron Ball/Angelo Babbaro (rotation)- Ball and Babbaro sort of took a back seat to Szczur and Whitney this year but they are both very experienced and talented.
WR: Sr. Matt Szczur?- Szczur is a question mark because his status is unknown due to his baseball career. If he comes back, Szczur should be the preseason favorite for the Payton Award due to his outstanding regular season performance and ungodly postseason performance.
WR: Jr. Norman White- Big, Tall and Athletic with good hands. Should step in and make some plays this season.
WR: So. Dorian Wells- Good open field runner and a threat on reverses and option pitches. Made some good catches this season.
TE: RSr. Chris Farmer- Converted Defensive End who's a bit of a late bloomer. Good blocker, improving receiver. Caught a TD in the National Championship game and made a big catch late in the semifinal against W&M.
LT: Ben Ijalana- Future Pro. Has started every game in his Villanova career at Left Tackle and his been nothing short of outstanding. He's a punishing run blocker but also a very good pass blocker.
LG: Sr. Brant Clouser- Nasty run blocker. Like Ijalana, he has started every game in his Villanova career.
C: So. Dan Shirey- Moves to Center after starting games at Right Guard as a true freshman. A little small, but athletic enough to pull and strong enough to handle defensive linemen in the running game. He may struggle against big defensive tackles though.
RG: RFr. Josh Bucci- This is just a guess as he's naturally a tackle, but the coaches are very high on this guy and it may be worth it to move him inside to guard until Ijalana graduates. He's big and strong. If Bucci plays Tackle next season, this spot could go to Hofstra transfer Jordy Paulemon.
RT: So. Chidozie Ekweozor- Was beginning to come along until he tore his ACL against Holy Cross in the playoffs. Big, Tall and Athletic but still somewhat raw.

Defense:
DE: So. Marlon Johnson- Was servicable as a freshman but didn't make too many plays, needs to step up as a sophomore to help replace Tim Kukucka.
NT: Sr. Thomas Weaver- Big Run Stuffer who's main goal in this offense is to tie up blockers, has flashed some playmaking ability at times.
DE: Sr. Mario Johnson- Transfer who made plays at times and hopefully will get better with more reps.
LB: Sr. Terence Thomas- Should be a candidate for the Buchanan award. Big playmaker and has been since he got to The Main Line. Has started every game since he's been at Villanova.
LB: Sr. Marquis Kirkland- Big thumper, had a huge game in the NC. A little short, but bulky and strong. Plays downhill with good athleticism.
LB: Sr. Jacob Wade- Villanova's best linebacker in coverage. A three year reserve who's played mostly on special teams, should step up now that he's been given the chance.
WS: Sr. Fred Maldonado- Very good player who can play safety or corner. Good at blitzing and at pass coverage, has good ball skills.
FS: So. Ronnie Akins- Big time player, big kid with range and playmaking ability. I expect big things from him as he matures.
SS: Sr. John Dempsey- Good hitter who just makes plays. Plays safety but is essentially a linebacker. Very good blitzer.
CB: Jr. James Pitts- Villanova's top cover corner. Good Size, Athleticism, tackling ability and ballskills.
CB- So. Eric Loper- Good size and athleticism, made some plays as a true freshman but also got burned a few times including a 98 yard TD against W&M in the playoffs.

Special Teams
Kicker: So. Nick Yako- Good leg, decent accuracy. Kicks a lot of balls out of bounds.
Punter: Jr. Dominic Scarnecchia- Looks weird while punting (rugby style) but gets the job done and his punts are really hard to return.

The big questions for 2010 are whether Szczur comes back and how to replace him plus how will the defensive line do with the graduation of Tim Kukucka.

W&M

QB- Jr. Mike Paulus or rFr. Brent Caprio- Battle will be waged in the Spring. Paulus transfers in from UNC.

RB- Jr. Jonathan Grimes, Sr. Courtland Marriner, and Sr. Terrence Riggins return.

FB- Sr. Jimmy Hobson returns from injury to compete with So. starter John Ribble.

TE- Jr. Alex Gottleib takes over for Rob Varno.

WR- Returning Sr. starters Chase Hill and Cam Dohse likely joined by So. Ryan Moody who staerted against UVA before injury.

OL- Seniors Keith Hill (RT) and Derek Toon (RG) along with Juniors Chris Sutton (LG) and Jake Marcey (LT) are returning starters. Center position is up for grabs, and several young guys will push for time, and the center spot. So. Rob Gumbita has started before, and is joined by So. Mike Salazar, rFr. Matt Crisafi, rFr. James Johnson, and Jr. Jamie Pagliaro among the hopefuls. OL should be the best in years.

DE- Juniors Ravi Pradhanang and Marcus Hyde, both with considerable experience, replace Adrian Tracy and CJ Herbert.

DT- Seniors Mike Stover and Bryan Jean-Pierre, along with Jr. Harold Robertson return from the four man rotation.

LB- Jr. Jake Trantin, and Seniors Evan Francks and Wes Steinman return as starters.

CB- The top three of Sr. Ben Cottingham, Jr. Terrell Wells and So. BW Webb return.

Safety- 2008 starter Mike Alvarado takes over at FS, and So. Brian Thompson at SS.

P- David Miller returns.

PK- May be filled by Miller, or rFr. Drake Kuhn.

The Richmond Spiders:

Offense:

OL- Drew Lachenmayer senior 6'2'' 286, only returning offensive lineman, very good player, will probably play center
OL- Kevin Westervelt junior 6'5'' 295, saw some time this season, strong as an ox and a good player, has had injury problems
OL- Brian Agnis senior 6'5'' 302, don't know much about him, but certainly big enough...
OL- Jason Sakoian junior 6'5'' 300, big and strong
OL- Ryan Goss, junior 6'5'' 302 team eating champion, don't know much else about him
TE- Kevin Finney, sophomore 6'6'' 236, good pass catcher, saw decent time this season
FB- Kendall Gaskins, sophomore 6'1 225, good short yardage back and decent pass catcher, could become more like a TB than FB depending on how they want to use him
TB- Garrett Wilkins, junior 5'9'' 180, hasn't gotten the majority of the carries but he's quick and can be good, also a good receiving RB, maybe a little undersized
WR- Kevin Grayson, senior 6'3'' 205, all-conference type player, had a down year this past season but might have been because he was getting the best CBs game after game
WR- Tre Gray, junior, 5'11'' 168, very quick and a deep threat, tough and fast all-conference talent, more yards, catches and TDs than Grayson this year
QB- John Laub, sophomore 6'2'' 215, (assuming we don't get the USC tranfer), very good arm, can run with the ball pretty well, if he makes good decisions he should be a very good player

Defense:

DL- Martin Parker- senior 6'3 285, All-American, Buchanon candidate, a beast
DL- Corey Jackson, junior 6'2'' 280, big fellas, should be good against the run, not as quick as Parker, will be a slight drop off from Parker Miles I think
DE- Adam Abramowitz senior 6'3'' 250 got some time this year, pretty good player
DE- Casey Cooley, senior 6'3'' 250, saw some time, no Nick Battle
LB- Eric MCBride, senior don't need to list the height and weight, Buchanon candidate and a beast
LB- Patrick Weldon, senior, atheltic, good tackler, could be all-conference quality
LB- Jordan Shoop, senior 6'2'' 225, seen some time, got in academic trouble or would have played more, should be solid
DB- Justin Rogers, senior, Buchanon candidate, good player
DB- Tremayne Graham, junior, got more time as the year went on, will be a very very good player (maybe our best defensive player IMO)
S- Darryl Hamilton, sophomore, got some time this season, big INT, should be decent
S- not even sure, they'll have to find someone for this spot

K- Wil Kamin, sophomore, should be solid
P- Nick Hicks, sophomore, former QB, played well at the end of this season

KR- Tremayne Graham and Justin Rogers
PR- Graham and Tre Gray

...phew...

my guess on the S at this point would be either Michael Parker or Colin Peanick -- both did good jobs on special teams, ust to much talent ahead of them to break through until now

Appalachian State 2010 Projected Starters

Offense

QB: Jr. Travis Cadet OR RFr. Jamal Jackson - Either way you slice it this is going to be the key to ASU's 2010 season. You don't go from Armanti Edwards to someone else without a dropoff. Cadet is a question mark who is an athletically gifted runner with a strong and wildly inaccurate arm. Jackson is an unknown with a stringbean build but he is supposedly a good passer who could run if needed a la Richie Williams. Then again, we could have someone unexpected come out of left field. Regardless they will have a talented cast around them to ease the transition. The coaching staff may not be sold on the current options as our Insider site says QB is a priority in recruiting.

RB: Sr. Devon Moore - Rushed for 1400 yds and 19 td's last year and will likely be 1st Team SoCon RB. Good vision and deceptive burst are assets but he's had fumble issues.

WR: Jr. Brian Quick - One of the top vertical threats in FCS who has worked on his toughness. Don't let the last second drop vs Montana fool you b/c he has good hands.

WR: Sr. Matt Cline - Speaking of toughness... the surehanded Cline is ASU's leading WR. He doesn't dance around, he just turns upfield and unleashes his wicked spin move.

WR: Sr. CoCo Hillary - Suffered a serious knee injury during the 2009 season so it's a projection that he recovers. If he is 100%, then he is valuable working the middle of the field, as a return threat, and as a downfield blocker. ASU missed his ability to turn a short catch int a long gain.

LT: Sr. Daniel Kilgore - He'll have to replace Mario Acitelli which is no small feat. As a former TE, he should have the quick feet to play LT. 4 of 5 OL starters will be returning. There are a number of talented freshmen coming in so this could be one of the most hotly contested position battles for 2010.

LG: Sr. Pat Mills - Quick, agile guard who may be shifted to RG if we have a right handed QB.

C: Sr. Brett Irvin - The unquestioned leader of the OL plays with a lot of intensity.

RG: Jr. Matt Ruff - Probably the most improved OL last year.

RT: Jr. Orry Frye - Could be a candidate to move to LT. This group of OL are all quick and have similar builds coming in around 270-280 lbs.

Defense

DE: Sr. Jabari Fletcher - Probable 1st Team All-SoCon. Has become an excellent pass rushing threat and was truly dominant in some games last year. He also improved against the run in 2009.

DT: Sr. Bobby Bozzo - Has packed on a lot of weight since coming to ASU. We lost a lot of depth at DT in the offseason so Bozzo will be counted on heavily. He's a hard worker and strong as an ox.

DT: Jr. Josh Jurius - I am going with an unknown to step up here. When I saw Jurius come in during mop up duty I saw someone that looked like a future starter. I may be way off on this one but we did lose a lot of depth here and someone is going to need to step up.

DE: Jr: Lanston Tanyi - Break out star on the DL last year forms a dangerous duo with Fletcher. They could be remembered as fondly as Hunter/Murrell.

OLB: Sr. DJ Smith - Probable 1st team All SoCon. Possible Buck Buchanan watchlist. Always around the ball and a tackling machine.

MLB: Wide Open - I can think of at least five kids that will be in the mix to replace Jacque Roman. App fans all have different ideas who will take this spot but no one really knows. I'll go with someone out of left field and say RFr Zac Baker wins the job.

BANDIT: So. Michael Frazier - This kid is a fan favorite who was a monster on special teams with his big hits. He may split time with last year's starter Justin Lloyd but Lloyd also suffered a serious knee injury to end the season so he may not be ready.

CB: Jr. Ed Gainey - Everyone's favorite whipping boy. Gainey gave up some big plays but also made some big plays. He's better than App fans give him credit for.

S: Sr. Mark Legree - Rangy ballhawk will be on the Buck Buchanan watchlist again.

S: RSo. Dominique McDuffie - The defense is different when McDuffie is in there. He makes big plays and has recovered his confidence after an injury during his freshman season. The ASU defense turned it around last season at the exact time that McDuffie became a starter.

CB: So. Troy Sanders - It will be tough to replace Cortez Gilbert but most think this is the guy to do it. Looked good in very limited duty last year.

Special Teams

K: Sr. Jason Vitaris - Wait, THIS is everyone's favorite whipping boy. He frustrates because of his inconsistency from short range. He has a strong leg and is actually BETTER in long range. But he's seriously not as bad as people seem to think.

P: So. Sam Martin - Big leg and accurate. Really helped field position last season.
