It seems that ND has hired Kelly. As an ND fan i'll see what Kelly does. The lack of a defense at Cincy is what makes me worried. He's won every where he's gone though.
BTW, the Edsell pro-choice thing is rediculous. If ND was turned away because of that then that's a huge strike against them imo. I understand ND's catholic stance and i tolerate that. However, to not hire someone because of it is absurd.

He went from One College that can't get into a Championship game, to another that never will.

If you aren't going to get a national championship, you might as well get paid for it

Kelly has his work cut out for him. Unlike Weis inheriting a good group, the cupboard is bare in South Bend, especially after Clausen and Tate decided to go pro.

Cinci was already going to be obliterated by Florida in the Sugar Bowl. This will probably just make it worse.

Remember Cincy was better defensively than offensively last year when they won the Big East, but lost 10 starters from that group this season. If nothing else Kelly show good abililty to adapt to his talent rather than forcing in a "system".
Good hire for the Irish, who are in much better shape from a pure talent standpoint than people think.

Kelly is a very good coach, but I am not sure anyone can turn the Irish into contenders on a year to year basis.
He does however have as good of a shot as anyone!

He's a good pick up for ND, probably the best they could've gotten this year. But I will say I've lost a lot of respect for him since he won't even coach Cincy during their bowl game. He's literally leaving them high and dry. I can't blame the Cincy players for being as mad as they are. I would be too.

I don't blame the Cincy players at all, but I don't blame Kelly, either. This is a huge recruiting time of year and he can't lose a month of time to the job he is taking so he can do something for the job he is leaving.

That's how the cookie crumbles - there's never any good time to leave a program and go to another one. But since he needs to do the recruiting necessary to land players at his new job, it necessitates him leaving now and doing that work over the next two months. Do new coaches at the FBS level ever leave after a bowl game, especially a January bowl game, when they're going to a different school the following year? I'm not sure how a coach could ever leave a school and still keep your respect under that criteria.

That remains to be seen - Weis's recruiting classes were always touted to be very good, he was just never able to turn that into more W's. Maybe Weis was a little like his predessors in Davie and Willingham - they too were good recruiters but just not good head coaches. I'm sure there are some very capable bodies still in South Bend.
For Kelly to be successful, though, they need a defense. Not sure if that's been a coaching problem or a talent problem, but Kelly won't be successful until that's fixed.

Cincinnati will be nothing more than a stepping stone. They don't have a big enough stadium, can't pay like the big schools can so unless tha admin makes a decision to truely step up to BCS status they had better get used to coaches moving on.

RIght now Cincy isnt a great situation. They have to practice on their game field as they have no other facilities.
They are however building a state of the art FB facility , so they desire to be big time. They will however continue to get young good coaches to stay on top.

Your comment struck a chord with me about Lehigh's current stretch of mediocrity. Coen, by all accounts, has recruited quite well, yet, we are not seeing the requisite number of 'Ws'. Next year is his 'leaping point'. He either leaps Lehigh back into the national discussion or will be leaping out of Bethlehem...xnodx
