It'll never happen. But I could deal with that. That was a well written article too. The season would still matter as teams battle to get higher seeds.

Other than the Troy and Central Michigan stinkers, those would all be interesting games to watch.

Only problem is that the NCAA says that at least half of the playoff spots have to go to at-large participants. So with 11 conference champions, the field would have to be no smaller than 22.

Exactly. Eight or fewer auto-bids would be good enough. Even if you only gave auto-bids to the six BCS conferences and left the last ten spots as at-larges, the very best mid-majors would still make it in anyway. It's not like TCU or Boise would have needed auto-bids to get into such a playoff field this year.

Troy, Iowa or Central Michigan playing for the national championship makes no sense at all.

I blame that knobby-kneed pencilneck sport, basketball, for starting all this silly playoff bracket nonsense.

Well the winners of those conferences get in the playoffs for all other sports.

Playoffs in the NCAA include all eligible conferences.

It makes as much sense as the midmajor conference champions playing for the BB Championship

Most people around here would lead you to believe it makes no sense for the MEAC to get an auto-bid. I disagree, but how's that different?

but how's that different?

Because it's irrelevant to the subject of major college football.

This is something I could get interested in and it would make me want to see Nova move up if there was a real playoff. As it stands you have one game that means something and a bunch of others to celebrate not winning a championship.

I'm not the biggest fan.
16 teams seems fine, but 10 autobids is a lot. It's just tough to see teams like ECU, Troy and CMU in over so many of the top programs (last 2 at-large bids were #12 PSU and #13 LSU).

I almost think it would need to be a 20 team field with play-in games where the winners move on to play the Top 4 seeds.

That way you have schools that are not very strong who get an autobid like ECU and Troy playing for the right to play #1 Alabama in the 1st round.

Do the conferences deserve an automatic bid? Sure. But 10 autobids is alot when it only leaves 6 at-large spots. Had there been upsets in the conference "championship games" or final week games, it could have been a scenario where Nebraska, Clemson, Pitt and say Nevada get autobids (Texas, GT, cincy and BSU) would get the top 4 at-large...leaving room for only (2) at-large schools.

Rules are always changed. If it has the winners of all the FBS conferences, it'll suffice if they could convince the BCS leagues they'll make more money.
