Pretty damn impressive win. We know SIU is legit. I've been thinking for awhile now that W&M is secretly the best team in the CAA. I know they lost twice, but both were on the road, and they won the battle on the stat sheet, just not the scoreboard.

Me personally, no. Also, to the extent "you" means the team I root for, I'm not sure teams NOT in the playoffs can bid for games (and we're missing half our stadium).
But, if the first round is any indication, W&M got a home game. UNH did not.

great victory for the Tribe today after ANOTHER slow start. Could definitely see the explosive potential in the Saluki offense, but luckily we kept decent containment until we started breaking down the O line.
Saulki's really had a few key penalties that really without them, could have turned momentum for them.
I am praying for the Saturday game next week so I can make it to the Burg or to Philly.

Mainly, basketball school.
There's one amazingly dull poster on the SIU message board who leaps at every opportunity to drag the SIU football team through the mud because it's only FCS.
I don't give a damn. If you're at a school and you call yourself a sports fan and you don't support your school's team you're probably a worthless sack of excrement.
Oh, and for those that left before the game was over to beat the lines, but not be at the end of the last game at the Stadium..

First off, congrats to W&M on a well-played, disciplined, exceptional game. I was at the game (Saluki season ticket holder). One thing to remember, the town of Carbondale is under 25,000 population, and is the largest town for at least an hour's drive in any direction. So for us to get 6 to 8,000 is about all you can expect - the population just isn't there.
Today we really saw why the CAA is definitely the strength of FCS this season. Hat's off to the Tribe, and to the fans who came to Carbondale for one last game at the Mac. I talked to several W&M fans, some from Iowa (6 hour drive), some from Atlanta (about 8).

I should have said "usually" as opposed to "always" (I did point out te exception in 07').
From last yr's Championship Handbook, page 13:
"It is anticipated that the two remaining teams in the top half of the 16-team championship bracket will play Friday night, while the two remaining teams in the bottom half of the bracket will play Saturday. However, the determination of which teams play on which dates is subject to change if issues arise (e.g., host facility specifications) that necessitate a change in the best interest of the championship. The semifinal schedule will be determined by the Division I Football Championship Committee on the Sunday following the quarterfinal round"
http://web1.ncaa.org/web_files/champ_handbooks/football/2008/1_football_handbook.pdf
I'm sure that hasn't changed. Top half would be the teams from the #1/#4 part of the bracket, and the bottom half would be from the #2/#3. But since Montana is in the Mtn time zone and don't have lights then maybe the NCAA will use their extenuating circumstances clause to put the ASU @ Montana on Saturday. On the other hand, I'm sure ESPN will look at the Montana/ASU game as the far more attractive matchup and will want that on the Fri night primetime slot.
So I guess it could go either way. Might have to wait till tomorrow to find out which game will be on Fri night and which on Sat afternoon.

Maybe I missed somewhere else on this forum, but what is the deal with your stadium? The Richmond paper reported in the game article this morning that this was the last game there.
Assuming you have a new one going up.
All the Tribe fans I have heard posting were very complimentary of the hospitality out there. Thanks and continued success.
And I agree about the fan issue. You are a fan of the school or you're not. Never believed in this basketball school, football school stuff. If either win, the same people will come out and support.

SIU = basketball school, their football message board is a ghosttown and they were in the playoffs, what the heck is up with that?
You answered your own question. Congrats.
But if you really want an explanation.
SIU's football team being good is a new phenomena. And it's at a 'lesser' level than the big schools. A lot of students at SIU probably had dreams of one day going to UIUC, but weren't able to for one reason or another. They view football here as inferior and don't bother supporting.
The basketball team, however, had a great 7 year or so stretch of NCAA playoff bids, including two Sweet 16 trips. Those years are waning, it seems, but the support is still there for a sport that is all big time all the time. Even though we lose to teams from St. Louis these days.
When you see your team (basketball) on ESPN semi-regularly and have nationally televised games from time to time, at least way more often than football ever does, it's a lot easier to garner support for it.
