I'm a longtime lurker around here but thought I'd post something that might be of interest to you FCS folks - looks like Georgia legend Vince Dooley is going to be helping KSU get a football program up and running, which if true is a tremendous boost for us.

Also of interest is this snippet about the Atlanta Beat women's soccer team and a new stadium on the KSU campus, which will be shared by both the KSU soccer team and the Beat. It'll obviously be used for football once it is up and running.

I'm sorry but there's no way in hell that many people will ever willingly attend a women's soccer game. (Although I will admit that women's soccer is my third favourite women's sport behind Lingere football and beach volleyball).

Chicago has a women's soccer league team with the best player on the planet (some Brazilian brawd) and I doubt we ever drew over 1K for any game this year. I just love the optimistic stadium depiction.

But I hope KSU packs the place! MLS type facilties are great designs for FCS football. And Vince Dooley could be your Howard Schnellenberger (sp?). That would be sweet. Hope things keep rolling Kennesaw State man.

By the way, are those swimming pools in the one end zone?

I dunno about the women's soccer team - Cobb County is full of 'soccer mums' and plenty of soccer playing kids, so presumably there is some sort of indication for support. Either way, I don't care, so long as it helps to get a stadium built!

As far as that end zone - I have no idea what those are! It does look weird, but they'd be crazy to actually put pools there. I guess it's just the artist's flight of fancy.

Pap knows what he is doing getting Dooley to assist in this effort. Ga State, West Ga, GT, UGA, GSU, Albany State, etc. along with most northern states wanting recruits from GA and now KSU getting football has to dilute the talent pool of good GA athletes. More power to KSU for getting on board.

Yep, I think Dr Papp has been going about this the right way, building up support and getting a big name in on it. He was probably waiting for the stadium deal to get off the ground before gunning for football, but now that's taken care of, I reckon it will be full steam ahead now.

That's probably a LEED-certified 'green' roof over a training facility/field house - most likely some type of rain water collection system.

Welcome! Please don't turn into Ga State fans, heh.

Dooley is getting pretty old and has had health issues in recent years so he won't be an asset on the field but you can bet he'll help with organization, notariety, and fund raising.

I'm not too sure of the details - I imagine that sort of thing will be implemented somewhere. Bear in mind that this rendering is of the proposed stadium for soccer - I believe that when football is introduced, the stadium will be enlarged, so there'll be room for a press box and other football-related bits and pieces there.

Absolutely- that is what we'll be leaning on initially. I certainly can't see him coaching, but he may be able to bring in a lot of enthusiasm and perhaps a decent bunch of coaches.

Looks like we'll know in nine months whether we can support a football team. This is a pretty in depth article on the new football exploratory committee, with Vince Dooley to chair the committee. Hopefully time will fly!
