OK, from the "Marc Mariani is a Beast" thread:
12 catches 171 yards 2 TDs
4 kickoff returns 178 yards 1 TD (98 yard return)
6 punt returns 40 yards
(Thanks, grizband!)
Who do you nominate?

Marc Mariani, no doubt.
Without him the Griz would have lost big.

Villanova's Matt Szczur (see-zur) for three reasons.
1.) he racked up 238 all purpose yards with a TD
2.) he was all over the field on special teams, not only returns but tackles.
3.) 6 letters in his last name and only 1 vowel.

I like #3 the most.
Deji is my only nomination from SIU/EIU of course. Even without touching a single kick-off or punt, he had 166 yards and 3 TDs.
The wind was NUTS at SIU today. Blowing straight north just about at about 12mph for the whole game. Every kick-off that went to SIU (2) was out of the end zone.

Dominic Randolph 31-51-347- threw for 3 TD's ran for 1 in a loss. I know he won't win, but he played a great game. He kept his team in the game against a good defensive team.

R.J. Toman:
17-25, 240 3 TD's, 1 Rushing TD
Shouldn't win over Mariani or Randolph, IMO.

I think Mariani was the POG for the Griz, but how about Selle's performance in the 2nd half.
After throwing two terrible interceptions, and losing a fumble (without being hit) in the first half, he came on strong in the second half.
27/43 309 yards 3 TDs

No. Ronbo said that TSN would never give the award to a Griz, I just wanted to see what he's competing against. It's nice to see the stats. xnodx

WAIT a minute. Hold the damn horses :D. SFA had the hottest QB in the Big Sky coming to to town and yet their own QB, little Jeremy Moses, just casually completed 43 or 57 (that's about 75%) for 432 yrds and 4 TD's. Not to shabby for a team that according to everyone in the BSC was going to get rolled by EWU.

Not according to me. I thought the game was probably the most evenly matched (along with McNeese and UNH. I was wrong there) of the opening round. No, I didn't post a prediction, but the way I saw it was two pretty even teams. An 11 point loss is not terribly embarrassing.
But, back to topic, that is one hell of a day for Moses. xbowxxbowxxbowx

Partial homer pick, but Dom Randolph for me. He probably played the game of his life. I cannot recall one errant throw or mistake he made. On the national stage, against a pretty stout defense, he certainly helped his chances in the NFL.
Answer this question honestly: Is there a better quarterback at the FCS level right now?
Sure, Armanti is a helluva talent--a great college player--but is he the QB that Randolph is? Is Devlin, Ward, or Moses? After watching him for the past 3 years, and then today, I really don't know if there is a better one out there.

And Mariani had:
12 catches 171 yards 2 TDs
4 kickoff returns 178 yards 1 TD (98 yard return)
6 punt returns 40 yards
Clearly we should give it to Szczur.......and Marc had his 12 for 171 and 2 TDs against the #1 rated team in the country in defensive passing efficiency.....

little bit of an up's to chris arthurs, SIU's nose tackle. for a guy who's job is to basically consume blockers he had a sack and recovered 2 fumbles against EIU.
solid day for the underappreciated big fella.

I think we have all determined that no conference is worthy of an award outside of the CAA. So, glad you agree with my sentiment.xnodx

Mariani, Szcur, Toman, whoever, I'll take Randolph on any day of the week. The way he led Holy Cross against the Nova defense was really something to watch.

Dom Randolph was a monster on Saturday. By far the best QB we've seen all year. He should have completed 90% of his passes had the WRs not had as many drops. And he did it with quite a bit of wind as well. I'm looking forward to seeing what he does at the next level.

ESPN showed highlights of a FCS game?!? xeekxxeekxxeekx WHAAAA?!?!
As a homer pick, I'd like to say Terrell Hudgins (12 catches, 167 yards and 1 TD). Though it's hard to argue with some of the other stats from people. I mean, Hudgins does have 7 letters in it and 2 vowels. It's nothing awesome like Szczur.

Also Szczur has 6 letters with the 5th letter being a vowel. That's 4 consecutive consonants, 2 of which are Z. Can you say, Triple Word Score? xlolx
