He'll have to cut off his hair and shave his beard off. xlolx xlolx

Yankees' executives had said all along that they would not go crazy to sign Johnny Damon. They would talk about three or four years, nothing more.
Johnny Damon, who had a .366 OBP last season, goes to the top of the Yankee order.
Scott Boras, the player's agent, initially asked for seven years, and the Yankees said no way. Six years? Nope. Five years and a vesting option for a sixth year? No.

As recently as Monday, some Yankees' officials were convinced that they really didn't have a shot at Damon, that eventually, the Boston Red Sox would take control of the bidding; Damon had become such an important player to the Red Sox, particularly in a winter in which slugger Manny Ramirez had indicated he wanted to be traded.

So, should we expect another year when both New York teams load up on talent and both can't get to the World Series?

More than likely...

Baseball has no soul. I guess the players don't give a poop where they play, so why should we?

So if someone offered you $13 million/year you would ignore them? Nature of the beast in baseball now.. I'm a Yankee fan but am very surprised that the Sox let this happen.

Who cares if his arm is weak. These days there are only a few outfielders out there with cannon's for arms who can actually hit.

The Yankees needed a centerfielder very badly. They got one of the best on the market and did not have to sacrifice any young talent to get him. Florida wanted too much for Pierre and Cashman is adamit about keeping around his young talent (ie Cano and Wang)

Cashman and The Boss were winners in this one, big time.

As far as having no loyalty, does this surprise anyone? It shouldn't.

As far as Konerko, the Yankees didn't need another 1st baseman.

I didnt mean to say the Yankees needed Konerko, just saying Damon getting Konerko like money is overpaying for Damon like LAA overpaid for Furcal. Maybe it just says Kenny Williams is becoming one of those great GMs.

Last I checked Furcal is playing for the Dodgers not the Angels. LAA=Angels, LAD=Dodgers

I'm you're huckleberry! You Tombstone fan! The Yankees needed to pay Damon $13 mil/year like Johnny Ringo needed a hole in his head! .... Wait

He's just going to spend his afternoons and evenings chasing balls around that outfield, being that the Yankmees pitching still blows!!

Is he that much better than Bernie Williams??

Go ahead, Yankmees, spend another 200 million on washed up older ball players, and NOT win in the post season!!

Yes, if my prior team had offered me $10 million/year and I didn't have to compromise my beliefs (shave the beard and cut the hair) nor go to the arch enemy to get that $10 million! Just another example of a money grubbing pro!! There are multiple people on this forum who would never root for a rival team even if their own flesh and blood enrolled at the rival school. And there's no money involved, we're just that deeply committed to our schools.

Gimme a freaking break, Johnny couldn't make ends meet on $10 million a year???? Just another example of why I stopped spending any of my hard earned money on professional sports.

Yanks just wrapped up a 9th straight AL East title.

Laces Out, bad pithching? The Yanks potentially have the deepest staff in the league. Johnson, Mussina, Wang, Chacon, Wright, Pavano, & Small.

Wang & Chacon are for real. Both are young, and although they are not hard throwers, they have incredible movement on their ball. And Small is a lot better than you think (10-0 last year, incidentally). I see long relief for him this year.

This staff is well behind Contreras, Buehrle, Garland, Garcia, Vasquez, and McCarthy right now...age has caught up to alot of the NYY arms
