Saw this yesterday in the Lake Charles American Press (cannot link to).
I am surprised that no Pathner fan said anything....
Northern Iowa gets big win over LSU
Stout leads way with 18-point showing
BATON ROUGE (AP) — Northern Iowa’s Grant Stout credits some serious time in front of the TV for his team’s 54-50 victory over LSU.
“The coaching staff watched tons of film,” said Stout. “LSU didn’t really double team much in the paint. We have enough confidence in our post game to take advantage. It worked out perfect for us.”
Stout scored a season-high 18 points and matched his career-high with nine field goals in 13 attempts. Stout made three field goals during a 12-2 run that gave Northern Iowa (8-1) a seven-point lead at 45-38 with 7:48 remaining in the game.
With the Panthers trailing 36-33, Stout hit two shots to put his team ahead for good.
The Tigers were able to cut into the Northern Iowa lead down the stretch. Darrel Mitchell sank a pair of 3-pointers and a free throw as LSU (6-2) reduced its deficit to 47-45 with 3:24 remaining.
Trailing 49-47, the Tigers had an opportunity to tie the score, but Garrett Temple lost the ball with 1:04 remaining. Erik Crawford, who scored Northern Iowa’s last seven points, then hit a 3-pointer to put LSU behind by five points.
After Darrel Mitchell made another 3-pointer, Crawford iced the victory by making two foul shots with 15.2 seconds left.
“This is a great win for our program and a great win for our league,” Northern Iowa coach Greg McDermott said. “I am just very proud of our guys because they were able to follow the plan..."
Nice basketball win UNI...
