Real Salt Lake beats LA Galaxy last night and this is the first thread on it? xeyebrowx xcoolx

BTW, shootouts is such a STOOOOPID way to end a game, let alone a championship. xnonono2x Just keep playing with a Golden Goal ending it eventually.

I get what your saying...and I know in hockey I completely agree. But in soccer, it is already so hard to score that it doesn't make sense to just keep playing. The way that game was last night, it could have been going on for another hour or so...and I was already tired. :)

Plus the MLS tries to copy what the leagues do all around the world, so I don't see why they would change this way of deceiding playoffs/championships.

And? Surely you remember the Flyers/Pens 5OT game. :)

But it is still different in hockey. You have shifts, so the players get some sort of break. If you had the same soccer players running around for an extra hour they level of play will significantly decline and then the odds of someone catching a second wind to score becomes less and less likely.

Plus hockey is more exciting!

Soccer players get a break when the ball is in the other end. It's a different kind of conditioning. Jog, stand, sprint, stand, walk.... Hockey is pretty much sprint, grind, sprint, change shift.

The play will decline and therefore somebody WILL score. If they want to make at least make the penalty kick scenario better... move the dot back another 5 yards. As it is now, unless the player misses the goal (Donovan... unbelievable), the goalie's only real chance to stop it is guess right. Again... NOT a good way to end a championship IMO. xsmhx

Yeah, changing up the spot of the dot would help out. I agree it is just too easy for the shooters...such an advantage. I will say though besides Donovan's miscue, the goalies were pretty damn good. They catch the early tendencies of those kickers and made the right decision a couple times...not too bad considering the size of the goal.xcoolx

You live in America and you're really surprised that no one cares about soccer? Really?

Not surprised as much as vindicated. I was called a Neckcar fan when I told people here why soccer wasn't liked in the US. :)

I had no idea this game was even on, but as I was perusing through channels last night, I actually watched a couple of the PK's.

Then I realized it was MLS, threw up a little in my mouth, and I abruptly turned the channel. LOL
