well it doesnt work that way... Conference champion doesnt guarantee u a #1 seed, and not being champion doesnt exclude you from being the #1 seed. Its the best 4 teams, and Richmond gets a nod over Appalachian State.
And evidence that that happens is this. In the 2009 Mens tourney, three of the four seeds were Big East schools incuding 2 at-large teams.
In 2006 2 Big East teams were #1 seeds, neither were the conference Champ, Syracuse took a #5 seed in the South that season.

There are 4 big conferences in FCS football. I took their champions in this FICTIONAL tournament. I am sorry you feel that Richmond is better than ASU. I guess we will see soon enough.

seeds arent handed out based on who you think is better. Its based on who the best four teams were in the regular season, Richmond was better then Appalachian State... who the hell cares if Appy wins a damn conference championship. If Central Connecticut State wins the NEC championship, does that mean they are better then Elon?
And for what its worth, Richmond is co-champion, the only difference is they dont get the autobid, so you may want to clarify your wording in your argument.

OK, I just put together a field using the GPI. Only teams with a .500 record or better were put in. Teams 1-4 in the GPI were seeded #1 and placed in the best possible region with the #1 overall team getting prioity. The same priority was given as best as possible for each subsequent group (5-8, 9-12, 13-16 ect.) It is possible my geographic map in my head failed me once or twice... but overall its a decent bracket. Marist was the unlucky team. There were 69 teams right now .500 or better and Marist has the worst GPI so were left out.

Why does everyone keep putting in ODU in their brackets, and a top 8 seed in a region at that? They played a Little Debbie schedule if there ever was one. I would put in Fordham over them.

Agreed. GPI would place them as a 15 seed. Problem is people are going by record it would appear. They maybe 8-2, but its not a great 8-2. Heck a 9-1 Butler team barely makes the field with the GPI and an 8-2 Marist is left out.

November 17th, 2009, 10:09 PM
OK, I just put together a field using the GPI. Only teams with a .500 record or better were put in. Teams 1-4 in the GPI were seeded #1 and placed in the best possible region with the #1 overall team getting prioity. The same priority was given as best as possible for each subsequent group (5-8, 9-12, 13-16 ect.) It is possible my geographic map in my head failed me once or twice... but overall its a decent bracket. Marist was the unlucky team. There were 69 teams right now .500 or better and Marist has the worst GPI so were left out.

that wasnt put together based on my bias.. its simply based on the current GPI.

I used other brackets as reference points and also factored in GPI (although a few teams ended up a little high including ODU) and I also tried to keep as many matchups as regionally feasible as possible. Of course there are a few where teams will have to still make some significant travel even in later rounds but I do think that you still have potential for some interesting matchups down the road.

Northern Arizona is in the field somewhere between 53-56 but two pioneer schools in between 29-36? thats seriously flawed.

I know its flawed...anything done by humans is to a degree. In my hypothetical tournament, both PFL teams get #1 seeds in the second round. Northern Arizona actually would get two BSC in its first two games and would face three BSC teams in 4 games if they made a serious run.

Thats the beauty of it... people can b*&ch about it, but its purely done by GPI. That being said, its amazing how nicely it came out using the GPI.. the only argument and its somewhat valid is that the CAA gets 3 of the #1 while Montana is a #2. But last year the Big East got three of the four #1 seeds in the basketball tourney so....

I must have missed this thread last year...very cool.
Nice to see the Mocs being a 10 seed or better in most brackets. Theyv'e come quite a ways since last year.
As for ODU, if this was basketball the committee would penalize them heavily for too many non-DI's, one of the weakest schedules in FCS and not getting out on the road enough (7 home, only 4 road).
(No offense intended to ODU, this is just for fun...ODU had a great first season + AMAZING attendance)
