I must have missed the memo. I watched the Flyers last two home game and they wore orange at home against Ottawa and now white at home tonight against Buffalo. Was the orange a third jersey?
I wish they would just go back to the way it was for the first thirty years of my life: white at home, dark on the road. Leave the guessing to the NFL.

So why did they wear white at home last night? That was my main concern. I knew the NHL had gone to dark jerseys at home the past few years, but this bucked the policy.
Anyone?

Third jersey program
Starting in 1995 (excluding a few prior isolated instances), some teams began to design a third jersey, which allowed them to experiment with new designs, or throwback to a vintage design. Though they are termed third jerseys, they can actually entail an entirely separate uniform from the primary uniforms, often including alternate socks, and sometimes alternate helmets and other equipment.[4] Some third jerseys have eventually become the bases for new primary jersey designs.
Third jerseys are typically worn only a few times a season by special permission of the league, based on a list of requested games. They can also be worn during selected playoff games. The third jersey program, as the NHL came to call it, was discontinued for the 2007–08 season, with the introduction of the Rbk Edge jersey, but was reintroduced for the 2008–09 season.
A team's desire to wear their third jersey sometimes requires the opposing team to wear their home or road jersey when the opposite would be normally worn, due to the color of the third jersey. This can occur when a road team wishes to wear a colored third jersey, or a home team wishes to wear a white third jersey, as there must be one team each wearing white and colored uniforms in a game. This can require a team to carry two sets of uniforms and equipment on the road, whether they are using their third jerseys, or are playing against a team who is.

I'm still not certain why they were wearing the "away" jersey at home. I thought the rule was that you wore home or third (or alternate) jersey at home? xconfusedx

OK, I found the answer in the below article. The Sabres and Flyers agreed to switch up sweaters in each others' building in the past two weeks. They agreed to let the Flyers show off the alternate on the road last week and the Sabres got to do it last night in Philly.

The highlight of the night had to be the jerseys. Although done as a marketing ploy by the Philadelphia Flyers, it was amazing to see WHITE home jerseys. The act will be repeated in Philadelphia later this year to give the Sabres a chance to show off their blue sweaters in Philly.

I'm not sure why they wore white last night. Thanks for the welcome guys. Not sure how much I'll be around considering our season is over now but I'll stop by once in awhile

yep lived there my whole life. Grew up a Lehigh fan and still am (of course UMass is #1 now). Up until I went off to UMass I went to every LU home game since I was 1.

A new UMass'er. I am glad to see we are adding. Welcome.
And regarding the topic, I still wear my white Brodeur jersey to every Devils home game. This dark jersey at home stuff is not cool.

Last year the Bruins debuted their "3rd jersey" which is all black with their bear logo on the front. I absolutely love it! They have only worn it once that I can recall this year which disappoints me because they look so nasty in it. It is very intimidating!
I guess it just depends on the team and their marketing people to come up with a sick jersey look.

BTW, I still hate that all that football and hockey changed the home/away deal from growing up. We were talking about that last night watching the Packers/Cowboys game with the Pack wearing their green at home... the way it should be... Skins did it too yesterday, now they just need to bring back their yellow pants. :)
