CCU just beat College of Charleston 70-59. It was our first win over them in 16 years. The team looked 1000% better than they did last year.

We were lead by Joseph Harris who had 21 points and 17 boards, and Chad ray who had 17 points and 8 boards.

Lehigh lost to Richmond tonight at Richmond in the openers for both schools, 65-53. Mountain Hawks committed 26 turnovers, which resulted in a ton of points. Not sure how good Richmond is supposed to be this year, so no idea what this all means as a season opener.

W&M got beaten by UConn by 9. We had it down to 5 or 6 with about 8 to go then UConn went on a run to about an 11 or 12 point lead.

Not bad for a team that went 9-20 last year and was picked to be 10th of 12 teams in the CAA this year.

Richmond was picked for 3rd in the A10 this year so i'd say Lehigh's play tonight is promising. I really had no idea they were suppose to be this good until i looked at the preseason poll. This is the highest predicted finish since the Spiders joined the A10.

A10 preseason poll
1. Dayton
2. Xavier
3. Richmond
4. La Salle
5. Temple (tie) we'll be fine xpeacex

South Dakota played three straight games in the Texas Tech tourney this weekend. They lost by about 40 the first night to TT, lost to Oregon State by 17 but beat Texas A&M Corpus Christie by 3 today. CC beat Oregon State by 20 and barely lost to TT by less than 10. The Coyotes have alot of new comers this year but also return some good players as well. They are in the make shift Great West Conference for basketball and are favored along with Utah Valley State to win the conference. The Coyotes are going to the Summit League in a couple of years.

The Southeastern Louisiana Lions defeated Sun Belt, Florida Atlantic, 90-77...led 51-27 at the break but got a little sloppy in the second half...FAU got hot from three late to close the gap...FAU is picked near the bottom of the Sun Belt, but they have some quality young talent under Mike Jarvis.

I go to school at Washington State and witnessed the Dick and Tony Bennett era of "grind it out" defensive minded basketball where we won games 48-47, 51-45, etc...but this Georgetown/Temple game is by far the ugliest game of basketball I've seen in a long time (although I didn't watch Penn State vs Illinois last year).

WKU is picked to win the Sun Belt for the 3rd straight year and lost only one starter from a year ago. A.J. Slaughter busted out 30 against Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the preseason NIT. If that's any indication of how good WKU is, that should be it. North Texas has better watch out for Denver, they are coming fast in the West Division.

WKU has already have picked up two PFs for the 2011 class. One of them is ranked in the Top 100 in the country and the other one is a 3-star recruit according to rivals.com.

Two very good defensive teams.

It doesn't get any easier for Temple. We get Siene on Saturday at the Palestra. We need to win this game to rack up some quality OOC "W's". Our schedule is brutal but we have chances. The A10 is going to be tough this year i think. We have a darn good shot at an at-large if we stay healthy and win some big games. I really like our team. We're tough and the offense will get going. We have scorers but they're all used to looking at Christmas do his thing. Dunphy will mold this team in to something really good i believe.

Women's team put up triple digits last night too. I'm curious as to how many times a men's and women's team for the same school put up triple digits on the same night.

And after the past two games against Charlotte and Coastal, I'm just glad the ball finally went in the hoop. It seemed like we couldn't buy a basket at times during those two games. I blame the hoops in Cameron for that.

EKU dropped a tough one at Pitt last week 71-60. The game was essentially dead even except for the fact that EKU went scoreless for the last seven minutes of the first half. The margin was single digits with a minute remaining, but the Panthers made their free throws down the stretch to ice the 11 point win.

This week EKU is hosting three straight nights of CBE classic action, and last night demolished Fairleigh Dichinson 68-39...it was never close. The action continues tonight with the Colonels taking on UC-Irvine, and finishing it off with future FCSers UTSA on Wednesday.

Nobody beating Duke this year. Once they get stud fresh Mason Plumlee back from injury, watch out.

I'll wait and see on that one. Duke has a lot of talent, more "real" talent then they've had in a number of years. However, they still have to perform in March. Their downfall has been athleticism and living and dying by the 3. They're more athletic but i still don't think they're going to run anyone out of the gym. The key will be down low. They have the two Plumlee guys who have potential. Zoubek is is horrendous.

Uconn is not as good as their ranking. They'll be a 8-9 loss team by the end of the year. They have good gaurds but nothing down low. I can't see them finishing in the top 4 in the BE.

It's an interesting matchup between the two hottest teams in the OVC, and even slightly more intriguing because they are meeting in what is by national standards a very early conference game...and then won't play their second game of the season until the final game of the regular season. Since they will be 2-3 and their losses will have come to Harvard, Maryland & Pitt, and one win came against D3 Suffolk it is hard to gauge how this team is this year. The PL has 3 really bad teams right now, Holy Cross is 1-6, American 0-7 and Colgate 0-6. HC and American struggles are really surprising given they have been the two premier programs in the league the last decade. Army is leading the way so far at 5-1.

AU being winless isn't surprising, given the fact they lost a ton of really important people from last year. They'll probably be competitive again in the near future, but this year might be rough sailing

HC has a new coach, and without knowing how he'll work out, Ralph Willard was a heck of a guy to lose

Colgate's losses include UConn and Syracuse. The losses to Yale and St. Francis were tough, but I expect the team to rebound and perform well in the PL this season

After some of the teams they've put on the floor in recent years, it is nice to see Army doing well. Overall, though, the League does not look particularly strong this season

The Missouri State Bears move to a lovely 8-0 tonight after a thrashing of UT-Martin 79-51. MSU won a total of 11 games last year but this team is nothing like that one and is proving it on the court so far.

6 games, 24 days, 5 of them on the road including at St Louis, at Arkansas and at UNI with a home game against fellow undefeated Valley team Illinois State. We will find out if this team is for real in this tough, tough stretch.

W&M's loss to you was painfully close, but we are off to a good start as are you.

Hope this is the year that we finally make the NCAA's in B'ball. Wins against WFU, VCU and Rich are good. Both losses to UConn and you guys were respectable.

Fordham had a terrific night agains tus. Thye shot 52 % from 3 point land and 52 % from the floor. Almost impossible to stop that since many of their shots were in the 25 foot range.

Yep, UNI was voted the pre-season favorite to repeat as MVC Champs! We have all 5 starters back from a team that won the Valley tournament, regular season, and lost by 5 to Purdue in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Expectations are pretty high here in Cedar Falls.

Kerusch had a double-double with 15 pts and 11 rebounds. Sally had 7 pts, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists in the balanced attack that WKU gave the win.

Anybody see the end of the Butler-Xavier game? absurd ending. 1 pt lead for Xavier with Butler ball with 38 to go. The ball gets knocked back into the back court and the clock freezes for a second or 2 but then keeps going. After a couple of misses and scrambles, Butler scores with 1.2 seconds to go. The refs went to review clock and ruled the game over because they ruled that the stoppage of the clock lasted somewhere around 1.2 seconds (enough time so that Butler could shoot but not enough time to allow the play to continue afterwards)

Can you explain this finish to me. I have no stake in the game. How is it fair? If the frozen clock had come with 1-2 seconds to go, I'd understand going to the clock and fixing it but it happened with about 14-15 seconds to go and then started back up. It gave Xavier time to see the clock and work with the time remaining. No rush was needed for the first shot afterwards (the big clusterf... before the score is another story). At that point, the teams are playing with the clock as they see it. Unless you are going to go back and fix every clock stall in the game, that should be life. (this may be the rule but I don't like it if it is)
