The Southern Scuffle wrestling tourney at UNCG will be in 10 days. I'm starting to get information on participants, rankings, etc. Is anyone interested in this stuff for me to bother posting it?

I would be. I will be in the triad at that time, and I might attend.

What are the exact dates?

December 29 & 30 (next Thursday and Friday). It is being held at the Greensboro Coliseum. Bouts will be starting in AM and will go into the evening. Two FULL days. Wish I could make the trip..but Lehigh will have a couple hundred fans there from what I hear..

Chattanooga will be there...fresh of their 6th place finish at the Reno Tournament of Champions.

The Mat Mocs are close to full strength for the first time this year and hopefully will be back in the top 25 team rankings soon. As coach Seay says (along with 10,000 other coaches over the years)...it is not how you start, it is how you finish that matters. Mocs should be hitting on all cylinder by March.

Matt Keller is currently ranked 7th at 133 and was the Reno Champ...Michael Keefe is also ranked at 141 (and was 3rd at Reno)

Thanks. Plans changed, and I won't make it either. Sounds like a great tournament, though.

I'll be there, although I'm going to miss the PSU match but this should make up for it. I think if Lehigh can get a couple of lucky breaks and avoid upsets we'll be able to take the championship although it should be very close between Minnesota, Lehigh, and Cornell.

Absolutely, we'll need a break or two to win the tourney, and hope one of our 'leading lights' doesn't get upset either. Seedings in a number of the classes can effect some of those matchups. I'd pick us 3rd based on expected lineups, but close enought to jump into 2or 1.

Well the pre-seeds are out on the Southern Scuffle's website.
Using only the top ranked wrestler from each school in the given weight classes here is how it breaks down with seeds for the big 3:
#1 Rankings: Minnesota - 1; Cornell - 3; Lehigh - 2
#2 Rankings: Minnesota - 4; Cornell - 1; Lehigh - 0
#3 Rankings: Minnesota - 2; Cornell - 0; Lehigh - 1
#4 Rankings: Minnesota - 0; Cornell - 1; Lehigh - 1
#5 Rankings: Minnesota - 0; Cornell - 1; Lehigh - 1
#6-12 Rankings: Minnesota - 2; Cornell - 1; Lehigh - 3
Unranked: Minnesota - 1; Cornell - 3; Lehigh - 2

Troy got a takedown very early in the match and then had to call for an injury timeout due to a pinched nerve or something along those lines in his neck. He tried to go back and wrestle but had to stop a second time before finally forfeiting during the third injury stoppage. Apparently this has bothered him before, hopefully he will be okay and able to have a strong end of the season.

Hopefully Lehigh will have a better day tomorrow.

Thanks for the info. Do you get Diehl's wrestling e-newsletter? I expect he'll have something updating this, but I hadn't seen it as of last night. Hopefully this injury resolves, but it's sounding somewhat chronic which raises serious concern. Penn State on the horizon--one week from today!

Yea I got his email at like 2am this morning. Hopefully we'll be healthy for the Penn State match, they look really banged up right now though which worries me. But if we can get healthy it should be a fun couple of months leading up to the EIWAs.

It was nice to see that Coop was able to win the championship, he looked really good all tournament.
