Any relation to another DE of recent past named Hunter?

Not sure, possibly a cousin or something. I think Jason Hunter was from Charlotte and this one is from Chapel Hill. Hopefully he plays like him though. xnodx

London is blowing the rest of the CAA out of the water with 14 verbals so far.

You can see what the other CAA teams have been up to with the hotlinks on the left.
Winston, the D-tackle may be the gem, given that he has offers from Temple and Louisville and decided to stay home.

NDSU has 17 verbals, is anyone close to that? I am just trying to get feel for how many verbals other FCS schools have since a SDSU fan posted on our board calling us a rarity for having so many verbals at this point.

I'd say it's quite rare to have that many announced verbals at this point...I know in the south, if you're an FCS school, you want to keep your commitments as low key as possible, especially if you have a decent number of "below-radar" guys on your list...with all the coaching changes around the country every year, there are bound to be a number of kids switch their commitments at the FBS level and that tends to start a chain reaction that results in FCS lists being raided at the last minute.
Maybe in the Dakotas and the upper midwest, you guys don't have the same issues as we have down here.

Yeah, I can't remember the last time we lost a verbal to another school. There were some rumblings this year of a recruit wavering but in the end it turned out to be nothing.
I do know that our local media does a great job when it comes to recruiting..... http://www.areavoices.com/bisonmedia/?blog=65851

UR, with a new HC, will obviously have to get to work securing the impressive recruitment list (on the 1st page). Coach Scott said in the presser that he hadn't contacted any of them yet (hardly a surprise, as this is the 1st official day on the job), but that is one of the top priorities.

We got a two star QB and a 3 star RB (the first big in state recruit) that have us excited.
With Appy ST...I've only seen a few games at "The Rock" but it looks like it would be a strong, strong selling point to a young football player. Like I said in my previous post...I don't see Appy going anywhere.

As far as Albany goes, 7 Hofstra players paid a visit last weekend. From what I understand 4 have committed to the Great Danes. Dave Cohen a former Albany coach directed them to pay Ford a visit.I don't know names yet but will inform as I get info.
Great for the former Hofstra players and great for UA!!!

So far Montana State has two verbals
Matt Thibault 6-1 180 Athlete, Belgrade MT
Matt is also the winner of the Wendy's High School Heisman award for Montana. Returned 8 kick offs for TD's this year for Belgrade High School
http://www.bozemandailychronicle.com/articles/2009/12/15/sports/000thibault.txt
Taylor Dees 6-3 225 DE, Huntley MT
http://mslacat.wordpress.com/2009/06/25/bobcat-fb-recruit-taylor-dees/
Heard some rumors on a kid out of Capital High in Helena named Josh Dirks (WR/Saftey 6-2 190) and also heard through a very good sourse that the #1 prospect in MT is seriously looking at MSU as well, Matt Miller. Matt has been offered by Arizona State, Boise State, Washington, Washington State and Colorado State to name a few. Sounds like he is considering staying close to home because he wants to stay close to his family and has a bunch of friends already attending MSU. I doubt it, but we'll see!

http://rivals.yahoo.com/appalachianstate/football/recruiting/player-Chris-Aiken-95477
Good story on him as well:
http://images.townnews.com/brenhambanner.com/content/articles/2009/09/01/sports/sports02.jpg
Chris Aiken is an immovable force as a defensive lineman for the Blinn Buccaneers. Butler found this out last Saturday when the 6-foot-1, 298-pound defensive tackle had three tackles and one sack against the No. 1-ranked junior college football team in the country.
Each time Aiken made a big play, he paused to tap his heart twice and salute.
“I do this for the soldiers, the fallen soldiers, the soldiers who are still over seas and to my best friend that is not with me any more,” Aiken said.
Aiken joined the Army on his 18th birthday and served two tours in Iraq. He spent five years in the Army as part of the military police and lived in Samarra, one of the most dangerous cities in Iraq, before finding himself starting at Blinn College as a sophomore.
Aiken said the military made him more disciplined and the military mind set is almost the same as being on the football field.

Palmer also had offers from EKU, Jacksonville St, Gardner Webb, and Charleston Southern along with AF, Navy, El Cid, WCU, and Georgia St.
Also pretty sure Marks had a couple other offers although I can't remember them at this time. I was told another FCS coach (who has taken his team to the playoffs recently) was extremely high on Marks.
FU was Boone's only offer that I'm aware of.
Not sure where Mason will fit in. He could play DE, DT, or TE even though he was slotted at DE at Navy.
Robinson isn't flashy but is a solid looking WR. I think he would have gotten a lot more attention (besides FU and WCU) from other local FCS school if he hadn't committed so early.

Monarch History
January 18th, 2010, 02:13 PM
Here is a brief synopsis of kids who have given verbals (for whatever that's worth) to Old Dominion. Posted on Rich Radford's blog in the Virginian-Pilot, pilotonline.com. By the way Radford does a great job covering the Monarchs and FCS. xthumbsupx
Dominique Blackman,6-4, 240, Soph., QB (Carson High, Los Angeles, Calif./Los Angeles Harbor College): He could red-shirt if the Monarchs feel it's in everybody's best interest. But after passing for 3,711 yards and 35 TDs against nine interceptions this past fall, how does a guy like that sit?
Ronnie Cameron, 6-3, 295, Jr., DT (Holy Trinity, Hicksville, N.Y./Hofstra): The fire sale at Hofstra after the program was cancelled turned up this gem.
Deron Mayo, 5-11, 214, Sr., DE (Kecoughtan High, Hampton, Va./Hofstra): Older brother Jerod Mayo was NFL defensive rookie of the year for New England Patriots last season. Also a Hofstra fire-sale special.
Angus Harper, 5-11, 202, Fr., RB (Edison High, Alexandria, Va.): Spurned interest from Pitt and Boston College because the Monarchs told him he could play running back at ODU while others wanted him as a safety. He ran 210 times for 1,396 yards and 19 TDs as a senior. Harper graduated early and has already enrolled at ODU.
Dominik Davenport, 6-1, 264, R-Fr., DT (Phoebus High, Hampton, Va./West Virginia): A transfer from West Virginia, Davenport didn't fit the mold with the Mountaineers' 3-4 defensive alignment. Hopes are that ODU's 50 defensive set will suit him better.
Jarod Brown, 5-11, 200, R-Fr., PK (Grafton High, Va./West Virginia): Kicked a 57-yard field goal in high school. Enrolled at ODU this month.
Kenny McAdow, 5-10, 220, R-Fr.,LB (Broad Run High, Ashburn, Va./Northeastern): Left Northeastern in fall after program was discontinued. Enrolled at ODU.
Trevon Butler, 6-1, 171, WR (Wise High, Upper Marlboro, Md.): Played on a state championship. Has 4.5 speed, maybe better.
Charles Owens, 6-1, 310, DT (Wise High, Upper Marlboro, Md.): ODU received commitments from Butler and his teammate Owens before the Wise Pumas turned into such a hot commodity. Wise went 12-2.
Dominique Guinn-Bailey, 6-4, 225, DE (Churchland High, Portsmouth, Va): He runs a 4.6 in the 40, which is crazy-good speed for his size. And he's got a motor that just keeps chugging.
Paul Morant, 6-0, 180, FS (Phoebus High, Hampton, Va.): Ever heard of the Phoebus Phantoms? They win state titles. Lots of them.
Aaron Evans, 5-8, 170, DB (Woodside High, Newport News, Va.): Evans was the Peninsula District's first-team QB this season as he rushed, and passed, for over 1,000 yards. And he's going to play cover corner at ODU.
Eriq Lewis, 6-0, 175, DB (Coolidge High, Washington, D.C.): The Monarchs dipped into the well two years ago and landed Craig Wilkins, who is now a captain on the team and holds down the strong safety slot.
Darryl Brown, 6-0, 210, LB (First Colonial High, Virginia Beach, Va.): Monarchs thicken the pot at linebacker with a fast one.
Colby Goodwyn, 5-8, 190, RB (Phoebus High, Hampton, Va.): Ran for 1,869 yards and 31 TDs for unbeaten state champs. Enough said.
Michael Justice, 6-7, 279, OT (West Springfield High, Fairfax, Va.): Can't coach size. You recruit size.
Preston Smith, 6-3, 240, TE (Deep Creek High, Chesapeake, Va.): This guy has a fast-racing motor and the chance to perform at multiple positions for the Monarchs. Can play DE or OG as well.
Larry Pinkard, 5-11, 170, WR (Ballou High, Washington, D.C.): Popped up on the mild-interest lists of a lot of schools. ODU goes back to the D.C. well again.

You know, it's funny how these websites can have some very serious variation on players. Just goes to show how inexact the science can be. But Rivals has Simmons as a 3-star and rated the 16th RB in the country (20ths best player in Va) ... Scouts has Simmons rated as a 2-star and the 131st Rb in the country. That is a serious discrepency! Rivals has him down as running a 4.39 40 (7th fastest track athlete in the country this year in the 100m i think) ... while scouts has him running a 4.43

Rivals doesn't have him as the 16th best RB in the nation. Rather the 16th best all purpose back:
http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/quicklist.asp?School=&Sport=1&DPosition=9&Position=8&Year=2010&qs=1
Yes Scouts has him as the #131 running back out of HS, and the 2nd highest RB commit to a I-AA (their #122 RB comitted to Weber State):
http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=9&c=4&pid=11&yr=2010
He was also injured for over half his senior season with an ankle injury. Might be why some of the big schools backed off. He still rushed for over 600 yards in 4 games.
http://sports.yahoo.com/top/news?slug=rivals-345164&prov=rivals&type=lgns
Yeah, one of the most touted recruits straight out of HS that JMU has gotten. I remember MM a couple of years ago saying Kerby Long in 07' was the biggest since Tony Lezotte in 03', but Long had a year of post grad on Fork Union Military Academy's post grad team. Lezotte redshirted and then was a 4 time AA. Long redshirted due to a NCAA Clearinghouse issue, started 08' (missed a couple games due to injury) and was starting last season but missed over half due to injury. Has been solid when healthy but not spectacular, and hasn't lived up to the hype. So you never can tell.
I take these star rankings, Rivals, Scouts, etc with a grain of salt. I won't get excited about this kid unless I see him excel on the field. same goes for I-A transfers.

Rivals rated 172 Pro Style QBs as 2 stars and above, and this kid isn't on ranked, so who knows how good he is. He did play for Midland Lee, a notable West Texas HS:
"Midland Lee won three consecutive 5A state football championships, the first school to ever accomplish that feat (Southlake Carroll High School has since won three consecutive 5A titles, in 2004-2006). The 1999 season marked an undefeated national championship awarded by the Associated Press. In the span of those three years Midland Lee went 43-3. The Rebels were led by tailback Cedric Benson...
