This is definitely the FBS game of the week!
Before all of you jump onto USC's bandwagon, this is not the Oregon team that you probably last saw at Boise State. The offensive line is much improved as well as Masoli (the qb). LeGarrett is out but LaMichael is in. Oregon probably has one of the deepest running back squads in the nation where everyone is dangerous at any moment. Also the defense is the strong suit for the ducks this year. Only holding cal to 3 is very impressive and averaging 16.7 pts against per game. Which is very impressive looking at the time of possession ratio.
Keep in mind USC has not won on Oregon soil in over 3 years, before placing your bets in Vegas.

Boise the best team in the country?? Not even close. Yes they beat Oregon, but after that they play no one, it's nothing but cup cakes on their Schedule. And yes I hope the Ducks win big this weekend xnodx

After watching the Ags play Boise, I would be willing to say that they are not among the top-15 teams in FBS. I have been looking forward to SC-Oregon for weeks. Go Ducks!

Oregon is the perfect example of what is wrong in the FBS. Strong talk that if the Ducks win against USC, they will leapfrog over Boise in all the polls. Wrong on all accounts...
1. Critics say Boise needs to play someone...Boise played and beat Oregon, not only this year, but last year as well.
2. Critics say Oregon would be the best team in the Pac-10 if they beat USC...Therefore, Boise beat the best team in the Pac-10.
3. Boise has been a mainstay in the top 15 for years. Most top 15 teams would get a home and home with other top 15 teams, yet Boise cannot get anyone to come to Boise, other than Oregon.
4. Critics say Boise has not been blowing out their opponents...How many other top teams would have been ahead at the end of the third quarter by more than the 44-0 score last week at Hawaii?
5. Critics say Boise needs to move up...Well, the Pac-10 has not accepted any new members since 1975. The Mountain West was the core group of the WAC when they left and have only added TCU since. The Big 12 has not accepted any members since the breakup of the SWC.
Head to head means a lot in the FCS, but obviously does not mean diddly in the BCS, where the big conferences make the rules, yet can change any of them at a moment's notice. To quote Baby from Dirty Dancing, "You can't win, no matter what you do."
Don't think this would happen to any of us who aspire seeing our team playing for the BCS championship someday. Without a playoff system, it will not happen. If you want to be the champion someday of the Citgo Carquest Charlotte Bowl, then move up, but you will never become the BCS champion.

I'm going with Oregon. Autzen is not an easy place to play. Oregon is on a roll after their opening debacle. And yes this is the FBS Game of the Week...hands down.

Well said. The players can only beat the teams put in front of them, which Boise is doing.
I think the most disingenuous part of the BCS system is how they say "the regular season games are the playoffs". Baloney. If that's true, then they're clearly using several different playoff criteria because some teams are in a single-elimination tournament, others double-elimination tourney and for the vast majority the record doesn't matter because there's no way under the sun they'll ever get in.
Now, if you're making the argument that Boise should get in over TCU, then we're having a different discussion.

I agree Boise would not play in a National Title game even if they had played a tougher schedule. The problem is nobody wants to play Boise because it is a lose-lose situation. Personally I think the Oregon team this week would beat the Boise State team this week. Anybody who has watch these teams play recently knows that was just about the worst game Oregon has played in a while.
I'm so sick of seeing Boise State fans on every Oregon blog, and asking Ted Miller scenarios and why you are not given respect. You are a top 10 team in every poll. A couple years ago everyone was asking whether a non-major team would even make a BCS game. Now the NC? Come on be happy with where you are at. The real fight should be to a major conference.
P.S. Go ducks! I know every Boise fan is just as big of a duck fan as any Oregon fan this year.

All FCS fans should take note of this, as Boise was a big player on the FCS (then I-AA) stage before they moved. Boise has been dealing with this for 15 years now (and counting). Why would you move up to a division where you cannot contend for the national championship, regardless of your performance because the "big boys" will not let you play against them? Any talk of any school moving to the FBS must deal with this issue, knowing that the best you will be able to accomplish is the second place finish Utah ended up last year.
On this topic, today, both Portland sports talk radio stations were basically playing 24 hour Duck information, excluding both the Beavers and the Vikings. I am so sick of hearing about the Ducks, especially with the idea they could leapfrog past an undefeated team that they lost to. Being that Herbstreit will not take credit for saying it, I will..."The Ducks are like Paris Hilton, they don't do anything, they look pretty, and they have a rich daddy." I don't really know who I hate more, the Ducks or the Trojans. What is on FCS this week?

Like Yorkfan I became an instant Duck fan when Chip Kelly moved west.
Good interview with Oregon's head coach Chip Kelly where he gives a thumbs up to UNH football and head coach Sean Mcdonnell:
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=rivals-329769&prov=rivals&type=lgns
Can you fathom how quickly your career has risen?
“Could I imagine this is where I would be [three years ago]? Yes. … Just kidding.
“Someone asked me that at my opening-day press conference: ‘You were offensive coordinator at New Hampshire and two years later you are head coach of Oregon.’ And I looked at him and said, ‘Yes.’
“Sean McDonnell is the head coach at New Hampshire. He is a friend and role model for me. He really has taught me how to do things the right way, with honesty, integrity and hard work. Because of our situation at New Hampshire … Mac always asks, ‘How do you do more with less?’ Our facilities weren’t the greatest. It was all about the players and the character of the people, the players and the coaches. They have been in the playoffs five years in a row. Nobody in that league has done that. It is unheard of when you see that stadium they play in and some of those other things. You wonder, ‘How does this team consistently do things?’ It’s about creating an environment where your team has a chance to be successful.
“Also, the former [New Hampshire] head coach, Bill Bowes, is a big influence on me. Me and Sean both played and coached for Bill.”

I know. They should either change the system so everyone has an opportunity at the NC or make those non BCS teams not at the same level.
As a huge duck fan who frequents Portland, I can agree with you that it is the ducks or nobody. I feel the whole state is Duck supporters unless they are beaver alumni. With no Pro sports the state has to get behind something, and that is going to be the most successful, or published team being the ducks.

As good as the Ducks might think they are, they are not (yet) on the same plateau as the Blazers. Here's hoping they never will get there. Blazers are actually a good sports program for the state to rally behind, Ducks, Beavers and Vikings fans.

Didn't quite get there, but 613 yards of offense with nearly 400 on the ground is quite the offensive output.

TCU is nasty. IMO they're the Memphis of college football minus the crooked coach. I would love for TCU to get a chance to play one of the top 4 teams in a bowl. Boise is very good but TCU is very very good. The amount of speed and athleticism they have for a non-aq team is amazing. They might be better than Utah in 2004 who before this year was the best non-aq team in the last 10 years imo.

yet another reason (in the ridiculously long list) for FBS to have a playoff. I agree that Oregon shouldn't jump Boise in the polls due to the head to head win for the Broncos, but i have a feeling that if those two teams played today on a neutral field Oregon would handle them...quite a predicament for the voters since both sides of the argument have merit.

Maybe, maybe not. Boise is arguably better now than they were at season's open as well. Fact is, Boise beat Oregon straight up, and if it comes to the two of them, that's what matters, not just when it happened xtwocentsx

I remember something like this happening in 1993. Unfortuntely that year the pollsters had an agenda for a certain coach. Head-2-head has been ignored in the past.

You would have to think that Boise's SOS just went up with Oregon beating the Trojans. It would be a travesty if Oregon jumps them, although I wouldn't put it past the BCS.
I think TCU should be ahead of Boise. Remember, TCU dismantled Boise State last year in the Poinsettia Bowl and I don't think enough pieces of either team have changed enough that it wouldn't happen again.

Also a strong statement, the Utes were definitely good that season, but that was probably the best USC team Carroll has had, they murdered Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl.

That's the beauty of the BCS -- I can remain convinced that I'm correct since there is an absense of anything to prove me otherwise.
There is no question USC had a good program but part of their success over the last few years (and, yes, I will included 2004 in that span) has been what I call the "Ken Jennings Effect". For those that don't remember, he was the guy who won 74 straight episodes of Jeopardy. I remember reading an interview where he talked about the fact that, once he hit 22 or so, and people were coming on the show who had seen his prior games almost totally psyched themselves out. More then once they would reply about how they felt good coming in second.
The USC myth of invincibility is built, in part, on other people buying in; other people believing they're lucky just to be on the same field, never mind winning the game. That, I think, is how Carroll wins half his games: beat them in their heads before they ever hit the field.
