I thought this might be a fun topic to discuss. Here's how my rooting interests in college football breakdown, and an explanation of why:
1. ASU vs anyone, any time. Duh.
2. Any SoCon team vs any non-SoCon team, UNLESS it's the playoffs and I think the team the SoCon team is playing would be easier for ASU to beat (assuming ASU is in the playoffs).
3. Any FCS team vs Any non-FCS team (includes div 2+ and especially FBS) (although I reserve the right to pull a '72 dolphins and root against an FCS team beating a top 5 FBS team if I feel that such an achievement would diminish our own. Although, I really can't help but pull for an underdog so that probably wouldn't happen).
4. Any non bowl coalition FBS team vs any bowl coalition FBS team. I love it when smaller conference schools throw a wrench in their stupid bowl rankings.
5. When no other rooting interests are in play, I just pull for the underdog, or against the most media darling of the two.
6. If 1-5 don't apply, I'll often just pull for whoever is behind and hope for a good game.
