I know we lost to them, but how are we behind JMU? I mean, it was Dudzik's last full, healthy game, in a monsoon, and was closer than the score indicated. It's really not something worthy of keeping us held down under them all year. The other polls can give us props, why can't the coaches?

The coaches also decided Delaware is finally a top 25 team again. They don't really follow all the teams

Glad to see the coaches favor a 4-2 Chatty team over a 4-2 Furman team.
I hate to bring this up… but IF Furman would have played Delaware and let's say lost by less than 7 points. I'm guessing Furman would have a better chance of being in the top 25 than there current position which is sitting outside the 25 with a 4-2 record with only one loss to a FCS team.
I'm all for a football version of the ACC/Big East weekend. Let's get the leagues AD's together pick a weekend were all nine SoCon teams matchup with nine CAA teams.
Furman/W&M, Richmond/APP, Nova/Elon, Wofford/Delaware, GSU/UNH, JMU/Samford, Maine/Citadel, UMass/UTC, Hofstra/WCU
I think some SoCon teams would take an ass whoopin' but hell that's how you get better, and it would bring some relevance to the rankings.

I think this all means that AGS puts out a damn good poll, yea some hits and misses, but all in all, damn good!

I'm not one to scoff at how these polls look each week, but after looking at the TSN poll and which teams got votes outside of the Top 25, I am at a loss. I will admit to being a GSU fan, so many will sense bias in my commentary. Trust me. There is none. GSU isn't there yet by any means, but they are getting better each week as the 30+ freshmen and sophomores on the two deep get playing time.
Here's my beef. GSU has lost to the #7 and #11 teams in the poll on the road. Those teams should be very good this season. They are full of upperclass starters. They lost to an ACC team with a 4-2 record and a Top 8 FBS defense on the road. They beat Albany and really mauled Chattanooga Saturday night. Chatty got a garbage TD with a minute to go, and up to that point through four quarters had only 175 yards of total offense on the night.
So I'm looking at the poll and I see Albany and Chattanooga with more votes than GSU. I see a team with a 2-4 record and no chance of a playoff appearance just out of the Top 25. How can this be? Who in the Wide Wide World of Sports votes on this stuff? Good grief people!

These are to some extent nuts.... We are idle and fall; so I guess each team gets penalized for having the built off week xeyebrowx
Anyway....

if someone around an idle wins, maybe their "body of work" becomes better than the idle team's body of work.

Someone, anyone, explain why 2-4 James Madison has more votes than 4-2 Furman?

The more I think about it, the more I think these things might be related.
First, it was more than just Dudzik that won the game. Our O-line pushed around Liberty's D-line and our D-line pushed around their O-line. I'll give you that it was closer than the score indicated, but we still won. It was more about Jamal Sullivan and Corwin Acker than either Dudzik or Thorpe.
As to Paladin Fan's question, the above creates all sorts of issues for voters who might've overvalued Liberty and DEFINITELY over-valued JMU. But the above is Liberty's only real point of reference for the rest of the Top 25, so what do you do? I'm sure there are voters out there that have Liberty in their Top 25, but feel like they have to have JMU above them.
I will also say that I gave a lengthy explanation on the other site as to how this could happen that I'll abbreviate here. I'm not saying it's right, but if you had JMU at #6 in the polls (behind UR and Nova) then we should be 3-3 right now. The only difference is the Hofstra loss. Is that loss worth a more than 19 spot drop in the polls? Some voters might not think so. Again, not saying it's right but trying to rationalize.

Oh, I agree. LU is holding JMU up, which is very, very weird. And Lafayette is holding Liberty up. It's a house of cards, and Lafayette is the card on the bottom...

A loss is a loss. Furman lost to a top 10 team by less than a touchdown (really by one) and Missouri, yet they get docked week in and week out in favor of teams with inferior records. At least this week they didn't vote Chattanooga ahead of us (a team we beat by 18).

What did that have to do with my point? We beat Liberty. Voters have Liberty ranked. If they have Liberty ranked then we have a win over a Top 25 team.
And for the other point, you're arguing with the wrong guy. You guys are in my Top 25 and JMU is not. I'm just trying to point out how pre-season slotting could cause JMU to still be in the Top 25.
