Agreed, but part of that may have been due to the fact that there were several thousand people on the field that made any presentation impossible. Also prevented the teams from shaking hands with each other at the end of the game--which, if you're a player is important. Why do people have to rush the field...it's the players moment, not the fans. It would have been nice to see an award ceremony at the end with the championship trophy being presented on national tv, but the mob took that away from the players. :(

Nah - the decision was made before the game ever stared.....you know how important sports center is.....they've got to make sure it's on at least 12 times in a 24 hr period

Just got back to my room, great game! I was a little let down at the final minute and thirty seconds when you knew ASU was going to win, but they sure deserved it. I congratulated them all in the parking lot and the hundreds I encountered on the field after they won. It was a great day for I-AA football. Everyone I walked up to was friendly and ready to share a story about their team. I'll be sure to post the pictures I took as soon as they are ready.

The only real negative of the night was the LONG concession stand lines and the ASU fan dressed in the pink bunny outfit. I was happy and proud for your fans till he ran to the UNI sideline grabbing his crotch and shouting profanity at the UNI fans, total lack of class on this ASU fans part.

As for concessions, it was frustrating because each time you got in line, you'd see two or three workers standing by the popcorn machine or the cheese machine instead of helping assist the line.

The game, fans and tailgating were fantastic. Prior to the game as I was checking into Staybridge Suites, the fans got into a cheer off. It was awesome and exciting to see the two schools pride. Staybridge did a great job in keeping control but also letting the fans have a great time. I will definitely stay here again for future championship games.

I hope it looked as good on ESPN 2 as it looked in person.

Just want to say hello to all the ASU fans and UNI fans I congratulated on the field, in the stands and in the parking lot after the game. I was the GSU fan in the GSU cap and blue Columbia jacket. App State, you deserve the win 100%, you played a hell of a game. Congratulations ASU!

I was at the game, I rushed the field (with row 1 seats, I didn't have a lot of choice), and I just watched the replay on my TiVo box. There's a good shot near the end of the game of Jason Hunter motioning to the sidelines for fans to come down.

I'm class of '01, and from the looks of the crowd on the field, as many as half of us were alumni. Several others were parents (who probably came down the stairs). A few of the players had children around them (theirs? neices/nephews/even siblings, maybe?).

Chancellor Peacock was loving every minute of it, too. I never met the guy before last night, but now we've hugged and shaken hands. He didn't seem to be too interested in the fact that I had jumped the fence onto the field.

It must have been close to 1 am before the field started clearing off. I guess field-rushing has its ups and downs. It's a tough call, and a somewhat interesting debate for anyone whose team didn't win the national championship last night.

The "win for Mountaineer Nation" idea has some merit, in my book. I went to ASU, after growing up 30 miles from campus and attending more games than I can count as a youngster. I'm part of the school, and the school is part of me. I'm not seriously a fan of any other college team, and I am confused by fans who support schools they didn't attend (or couldn't have gotten into, as is the case with 90% of Dukies). Nothing made me angrier than UNC and Duke fans at ASU.

My pro-team loyalties don't run as deep as my loyalty to ASU. I never attended classes with the Carolina Panthers, or lived on the hall with the Washington Nationals. I can say they're "my teams," but there's something shallow about that compared to what I mean when I say "ASU is my team."

For fans whose bottom line is "someone could get hurt," this is probably not a convincing argument. But to say that the championship is for the players only just doesn't hold water.

Oh well, I can't believe I wasted 5 minutes on this topic when I could be re-watching Jason Hunter's fumble recovery-TD and celebrating some more. That or finally cutting my playoff beard....
