Sucky crowd because of Fall Break for the students...
UCA's defense holds strong but we make a stupid special teams mistake and SFA gets the ball back with great field position.

yeh, the SFA D isn't looking to shabby, although the UCA offense put together a good drive...to bad this drive may stall.

I agree McNeese75. This fight is a long way from over. Texas State still a good team but we will see what they do down the stretch. You guys are good. And dare I say the Lions could be there down the stretch. I feel we are a good team with some powerful weapons. The game in Lake Charles will be huge this weekend. Can't wait to make the trip over to Cowboy Stadium hope its a good ball game.

It will be a dogfight in the Hole this week. With Babin getting his head up the Lions have the tools to give the Cowboys fits (tall athletic receivers that play jump ball and of course a nice RB to balance)
BEAR

Alright SLC fans..I'll say it again. I was unsure of a Bear victory last night because I thought if any team could pull off a win this year it would be SFA. Here's my breakdown of the game.
Special teams: kick touches UCA player, SFA scores 7.
Special teams: kick is stripped from UCA player, SFA scores 7.
Special teams: punt is blocked from UCA player, SFA scores 7.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's 14 of the 33 points given to SFA last night. Seven of the 21 was just a good play by the SFA punt coverage team..deserved. When you lose by 3 points on a last second field goal, you lose.
Knowing all that, then UCA held SFA to 21 SFA points, which tells me UCA has a decent defense. Average offense to score 30 but it would have been enough had the special teams not screwed it up for 14 points.
Lesson learned: All 3 phases of your game, offense, defense and special teams, must be working or you lose. We had a bad night on special teams with two punts averaging 14 yards also. WTF? With that kind of kick why not just go for it! xlolx Carmona looked good though.
Highlights included:
Robbie Park took a dive over a defender, got lifted up, landed on his head, did a flip, and still held onto the ball.
UCA's onside kick recovered and a quick 44 yard TD strike to tie the game. Amazing to see that work no matter who does it.
The last catch by the SFA player at the 25 or so I think it was. Moses threw the ball. It went too high to catch. The receiver tipped it in the air, fell back, tipped it again straight up as he was falling, landed on his back, and the ball fell right into his hands. Amazing!
I'm guessing the Southland promotions people will be using a few highlights from this game as promotional shots. xlolx
I'm disappointed we lost, but not surprised too much because SFA has the talent and the luck to win the conference. But also as I said in the predictions thread, if we lose because we beat ourselves with penalties, turnovers etc..I will be disappointed in the team.
The season moves on.
Up next, the team that has to deal with a very very angry Coach Conque week of practice, Nicholls.
At the beginning of the season I was worried we wouldn't have enough offense to win the "consolation" title. Now I wondering if any team left on SFA's schedule has enough of anything to give them just one loss! Plus we have to go to the hole. xeekx Transition and homecoming next week! Go Bears!

True. But even with just 7 points "given", UCA wins by 4. xnodx My point was that it was a special teams fail all night. I was just happy to see some points on the board for the offense since that was the big question for the team starting the year.

According to your other post the strip and the block occurred on different possessions so wouldn't that be 14 instead of 7 and UCA loses by 3?

Nope. Your missing my point. The special teams cost UCA the game last night. That''s all. What was the reason McNeese lost to SFA? Mistakes, turnovers. SFA is good, but mistakes by the other teams have cost them the games and given SFA two games so far. That's my point.

Bottom line; SFA went on the road and made the plays to win including very, very few mistakes.
UCA was at home, had a good plan that worked for the most part (moved the chains, held the ball, scored) but did NOT make the plays on special teams to deserve to win.
SFA has a good team and on Saturday night got the win they deserved.
Does not mean the SLC race is over, but puts them in good shape with wins over McNeese and UCA.
