Samford takes the lead 7-6.
So far Furman/Samford is a shootout. No one has stopped anyone.

As a sidenote, Samford hasn't come close to stopping Furman's offense yet. It's early in the game, but is this the Paladin offense we've been waiting to see?

End of first quarter. Paladins up 13-7.

Sorrells to RJ Webb for 13 yards.
Furman up 20-7.
Samford better get the offense going, or this may end up a route. Samford's vaunted defense doing nothing against Furman right now.

Is Samford's defense collapsing or is Furman's offense stepping it up that much?

Furman's defense holds Samford out of the endzone on a 4th and goal from inside Furman's one.
Paladins still up 20-7.

Not really sure. Furman has a slew of offensive weapons, and most FU fans have felt like the Paladins just really haven't been clicking to this point.
So far, this has been one of those games we've been waiting to see. Furman has pushed the ball up field, forced Samford to cover all our recievers, and really used our running back speed on the outside all while plunging Uhaa up the middle.
I'll post the halftime stats, but Furman had 219 yards of offense with 9 min. left in the half. Furman has punted twice I think, but we aren't shooting ourselves in the foot like we have in past games with penalties early in the possession.
Still, impressive to put 20 points and 200+ yards on the #2 defense in the country in the first half.

Samford tacks on a field goal of 26 yards.
20-10 Furman.
Paladins need to get a sustained drive going and give our defense a breather.

Sorrells hits Chris Truss in the endzone for 8 yards. His 3rd TD toss of the day.
Furman is having some serious problems with their snapper (one's out, I'm not really sure what's going on), but another xpt missed.
Furman 26-10.

Alex Barnett runs it in for a bulldog touchdown.
Furman up 26-18 after Samford converts 2 point conversion.
I'm hoping the two Paladin missed extra points don't come back to bite us.

Furman's offense goes three and out. Paladin defense needs to make a stop on defense with an 8 point lead.

Samford on the goal line again.
Furman's defense is gassed and can't get off the field on third downs.

Samford has to go for two to tie it.

No good!
Furman defense holds on the two point conversion. Furman still leads 26-24.
Furman's defense has been on the field far too long in this half. The Paladin offense needs to come out, pick up some first downs, and drain this clock.

Samford was 3rd and 18 from their own nine. Missed receiver. Sammy has to punt.

Good defense by Furman finally. We seem to be close to being a good team but also close to being not very good. All I know is another loss and we are dead.
Good punt return by Mims. We need to put this game away.

Adam Mimms takes the punt and returns it back deep inside the Bulldog zone.

Furman looked good. Our defense has not been able to get off the field on third and longs. Samford's best offensive play has been the quarterback scramble.
our offense has been solid, but hasn't gotten long drives and first downs when we've needed to give the defense a rest.

I'm so glad GSU has a kicker....we'd be 1-5 without our good kicker.

Cesari doesn't have a huge leg but he's solid. The problems today have been b/c our normal short snapper isn't available and the back-up has stuggled.

Very similar to last season's game in Birmingham. Furman played well most of the game and Samford just kept hanging around. The two extra points missed would have really changed the game.
Furman's defense played better than the score would indicate. A lot of Sammy's yards were picked up on quarterback scrambles. Paladins just couldn't get off the field in third and long. A tip of the hat goes to Taliaferro, he played a gutty game.
