Game 1 gets underway shortly. I predicted Angels in 7 in the playoff prediction thread, so I'll stick with that. Go Angels!

4-1 Yankees in the 7th. This would be a much tighter game if it weren't for some atrocious defensive plays by the Angels. Lackey pitched admirably, but the Yankees have cashed in on the errors.

LOL LOL LOL
My GF is a Yanks fan, so that's why I want them to win. If she is happy, I'm happy. (if ya know what I mean)
Honestly, I'm not a baseball fan and have no dog in this fight.

Paying New Jersey natives to move back to New Jersey would be a valid government expenditure, IMHO.

Angels don't get the "neighborhood" call at second, but get out of the inning. On to the 11th . . .

Yeah, the teams in red in these LCS's have been uncharacteristically bad on defense.

Selfishly, I want the Yanks to take the series to set up a Jersey Turnpike World Series.
That being said, I hope the Angels make this a seven game series with every game going 11 to 13 (or more) innings.

It is harder now since the Phillies won again last night...but I am still holding out hope of a NY/LA World Series!! I would love to see Torre standing on the top step of the visitors dugout in NY. But reality is setting in that it will more likely be a NY/Philly series...which I think I will be fine with too.

A couple bad calls in the top of the 4th cancel each other out. Looks like Swisher did not leave third too early on the sac fly--but then, he was ruled safe at second earlier in the inning when he was clearly out.
Yankees up 3-0.

Yankees up 3-0.
The SWisher pickoff play at second reminded me of the famous Feller-Masi pickoff play in the Braves-Indians World Series of '48. The ump ruled that Masi was safe, although he was out by as much as Swisher, then Masi went on to score on a hit by Johnny Logan. Lou Boudreau made the tag and couldn't believe it. Feller lost the game, but the Indians won the series.

I think Jorge was blocking the ump in all honesty.
This is what I hate most about MLB umps: arrogance.
There is no good reason why the home or second base ump couldn't have walked up and had a huddle, just like the NFL refs do, and get the call right.
This whole first-call-stands-no-matter-what BS needs to be made a thing of a bygone era. I really think it turns off a generation that is more in tune to the NFL and its way of doing things.
And Jesus Christ, expand the flipping replay rule to all calls other than balls and strikes! Like, as soon as this season ends. Two challenges per team and get a third if you get two overturned. Simple.

No matter if Jorge was blockingor not, if they were both on the base, Jorge is safe, so no matter what, Cabrera or whoever it was would have been out reguardless...Ump wasnt even looking at their feet, just like on the tag play

He can tell Jorge isn't on the bag. That is why he called him out on the take. But he can't tell if Cano is on the bag until Jorge moves and when he does move the ump sees that his foot is on the bag but didn't see him put it there after the tag.
Like 93 said above, the other umps should have walked over and talked it out.

I think they will too but weather could be a factor. I'd like to see the Yankees at full strength.
I honestly think if they take care of business tomorrow night, the World Series will go 6-7 games and be great baseball, going either way. However, if this series finds a way to creep into Sunday and CC has to pitch again, the Phillies will roll in 5 games.

I don't get this hype around the Yankees pen - the only guy I'd trust coming out of the Yanks pen is Rivera, who of course is fantastic. But outside of him, there's nothing really reliable right now. Jabba and Hughes keep getting hit everytime they venture out onto the mound, and the rest of the staff is unremarkable. For all the hype given to those two kids, they're finding it hard to translate that into postseason success.

I don't think either bullpen is something to write home to mom about. They both have had their struggles, and I think the tone of this series will be set by the starters and I will certainly give the Phillies the advantage in that regard.

However, I guess I don't care who wins...I really hope it goes the full seven games and I will be rooting for the Phils (probably the first time I have rooted for a Philly team since the Eagles were in teh Super Bowl) but I feel deep down that the Yankees will in fact win it.

I think the Rivera factor tends to cloud views in this matter - I'd take Rivera over any closer in baseball (although even Rivera has failed quite a few times on the biggest stage too - jut has succeeded a lot as well). But for all that Jabba, and more importantly Hughes, was made out to be, I don't see them delivering in the post season right now. There was talk on the radio for weeks that the Yanks could practically shorten a game to 5 innings, and then put it in the books by handing it off to Jabba, then Hughes, then Mariano. Unless Mariano is going to pitch all 4 of those innings after Jabba and Hughes fail to record an out in the 6th, I don't see that kind of scenario happening.

Nah, gotta go with what Rollins said before the year - he called a Yanks/Phils WS and had the Phils winning it. The man hasn't been wrong in a prediction in over 3 years. He's a modern day Nostradamus. xthumbsupx

For the record...I hate Chamberlin...maybe it is the constant throwing at Youkilis' head or maybe its just because he is an arrogant a-hole but I think Hughes can buckle it down when needed. As for Rivera, yeah he has blown a couple games but he is cerainly the greatest closer of all time and one of only two who actually deserved to get paid big bucks to do so...(the other being Hoffman).

Doesn't matter how you get here, only what you do when you do get here. Kinda like a Phils mantra - the bigger the game, the better they get. That's why I like them in a big way if they get to play the Yanks. I'm actually a little more scared of the Phils playing the Angels to be honest - it may seem like a let down after thinking they could be playing the bid bad Yanks.

More Little-League fielding mistakes by the Angels last night. How on earth do you fail to field two sacrifice bunts in a row? Two batters in a row are trying to make an out and you can't grant them their wish? And this after you score a rare run off of Mariano Rivera to at least make it potentially interesting in the 9th?
Please, Phillies, play good defense this week!
