Revised Payton Watch List Announced

Delaware quarterback Pat Devlin and Southern Illinois all-purpose runner Deji Karim are the latest editions to the revised Walter Payton Award watch list. Devlin and Karim join 18 other players on the list.

The Payton Award, now in its 23rd year, is given by The Sports Network to the most outstanding player in the Football Championship Subdivision.

Four players named to revised Buchanan Award watch list

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Tim Knicky of Stephen F. Austin, Jeremy Maddox of Alabama A&M, Arthur Moats of James Madison and J.C. Sherritt of Eastern Washington have been added to the Buck Buchanan Award watch list.

The Buchanan Award, which is in its 15th year, is given to the top defensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision.

I think the selectors made some mistakes when the lists were put out initially, and are still overlooking some players.

Either they didn't and don't know what they're doing, are being political, or refuse to listen to the input they receive.

I've felt for a number of years that the awards are being cheapened by not having enough of the right players on the watch lists, by not having the right finalists at times and by not having the right final pick at times.

SC, why don't you post the stated criteria for the awards, so everyone can see it.
