Charlie Davies, a striker for the United States national soccer team, was involved in a one-car accident early Tuesday in suburban Washington, D.C., in which another person was killed, a U.S. Soccer Federation spokesman said.
Davies was in surgery Tuesday afternoon at Washington Hospital Center and in stable condition, U.S. Soccer said in a statement. The extent of his injuries were unknown, but U.S. Soccer spokesman Neil Buethe said they were not life-threatening.

Davies was out of surgery by 6 p.m., according to Washington Hospital Center Medstar spokeswoman Paula Faria. U.S. Soccer Federation spokesman Neil Buethe earlier said that Davies had been taken in for surgery before noon.
Buethe said Davies' injuries were not life-threatening. He initially said the injuries were "possibly" career-threatening but later clarified the remark.
"At this point, we just don't know the extent of the injuries, so we can't comment on how this affects Charlie's future," Buethe said.

If that's really the car he was in, how on earth did he survive!?
Last rumor I heard was that he may have career ending injuries. I'm sure it's still to early to tell though. Hope that's not the case!

Happened on the GW Parkway. There are crashes on that road almost every night. Lots of deer, very dark, hilly, no shoulders, etc... xsmhx
edit... just read where on GWP it occurred... not a common place for night accidents. This was all the way down by the Pentagon and airport. Woman that was killed was 22 years old... hate to speculate but could be they were messing around trying to get a better view of her or something along those lines?

My first thought was deer since it was on GWP as well but you are right. The deer are at the north end of the GWP not down by the airport area. I hate driving on that road at night because of the deer.

I was thinking that same thing. Not much good can happen when you are driving around at 3 in the morning. Has anyone said if Alcohol was a factor?

I just heard that Davies was a passenger in the back seat and was wearing a seat belt. Looking at that car, he would have been dead if he was in the front seat.
The US fans tonight in DC have something planned tonight in the 9th minute (#9 is Davies number) so be on the lookout for that.

...don't know about any of you but when I was his age I was out and about that time of the morning especially if I had two young ladies available - oh hell yeah! xrolleyesx
In the official release from his club in France there was a statement that he was not under curfew because he was not going to play against CRC.
