2005 AFCA DIVISION I-AA COACHES’ ALL-AMERICA TEAM

[MACHIAVELLI]

The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all four of its divisions. What makes these teams so special is that they are the only ones chosen exclusively by the men who know the players the best — the coaches themselves.

The Award

Members of the AFCA Coaches’ All-America Team receive a plaque commemorating their selection to the team.

Don't think too highly about this team and recognition for Eugene...

Corey Roberts of Sam did not get any All-American mentions what so ever and he shows up on this team. No way Eugene is better than Meyer, Santos or Nealy.

This team has some hits and some obvious misses, the Eugene and yes, I'll admit it, the Roberts selection among them...

Meyer, Santos, and Nealy are definitely superior QB's to Eugene. Look at the teams that Eugene plays against the only football team that Grambling Played was Washington State and Eugene went 14 of 30 for 197 and had 12 carries for -33yds and a 38-7 loss. Then look at what Meyer did against San Jose State throwing for 372 and 2 TDs and Nealy against Texas A&M threw for 378 and 3 TD's while rushing for another. And Santos as a freshman in his second career game against Rutgers after they upset Michigan St. threw for 355 5TD's in 35-24 win. Nough said

I don't think this list should be looked down upon, nor any for that matter. Different voting bodies see things differently. What's the problem? It's great that these kids got recognized. Congratulations!

It's all subjective anyway, so how's about we lay off the negativity? Can anyone say Eugene wouldn't have had a great season in the A-10 too?

These things are all subjective! Big deal!

And no, this is not about the fact that Colgate has a player on this list. I just can't take the shots that are being thrown at Bruce Eugene. This body of voters decided that he was the best quarterback in the nation. Didn't Mr. Euguene also finish in the top 3 for Payton voting in 2002 and 2003? Why is this so outrageous? Who is to say that if Eugene had the UNH or EWU teams (and Ball or Kimble to throw too) he wouldn't have performed similarly?

Just because of bunch of voters for the SN got together and voted Meyer/Santos 1-2 doesn't mean that coaches can't see things differently, and it doesn't make them "out of touch".

The coaches chose who they thought was better. How is it any different from a bunch of SID's who also never see all of the schools/players, play send in a vote for the AP and SN All American teams.

Eugene is a good QB. He throws a very tight spiral, meaning his mechanics are excellent. And for his size he is mobile. If he was smaller his draft status would be better. (Remember Jared Lorenzen) And you can't judge Eugene on one game against Washington State and ignore the rest of his work. Washington State was far more superior along the line and there is no quarterback that throws well on his back. Washington State sacked Eugene 6 times and had several hurries.
