Ahhhh. Chris Griffin. That kid was a legit athlete...too bad he was also a dummy. He was supposed to be our starting QB as a redshirt freshman during the beginning of the BVG era (2006). He was named the starter in the spring and then flunked out of school...
we had a transfer from Southern Miss come in and take the starting QB job instead...we went 3-8...it all went downhill from there.

Wow, quite a few flops on that list. I would say Eric Ward, Pat Grace, Ben Widmyer, and Derrick Fourroux really exceeded expectations. Sorrells has shown signs of being a really good qb, but I think the verdict is still out on him.

Sorrells is moving up Furman's all time lists pretty rapidly. If he continues at this pace he will pass his dad and Lamb in a number of categories and be up there with some guy named Martin.

He couldn't start at Richmond but he does start for Troy State.

I notice Stan Doolittle [GWU] did not make the list. If he keeps up his stellar play this season, he will have been a big oversight.

Andrew Hatch - the oddest road of a QB ever:
JV QB at Harvard to starting QB at LSU to professional student at Harvard.

I would say 7-8 of these guys panned out with Grace, Ward, and Lee being the top 3.

TTU's starting QB was a 2-star Louisville signee in 2005. He's started 4 years and set (on pace to set) several passing records at TTU...

AE actually wasnt very heavily recruited, most schools wanted him to play a position other than QB. I think he was more of a "athlete" coming out of high school. For some crazy reason ASU told him he could play QB.

I believe AE was class of 2006, and played as a true freshman.
ShowingBlitz did a nice job of covering I-AA, but he wasn't to good at evaluating QBs. Some from that class not even on the list, such as RJ Archer from W&M.

I remember that, but I also thought I remember he was ranked as a dual threat QB too....he had a couple of those "sought after" xrolleyesx star thingies because he was recruited by Klempsun. I also remember him leaning heavily towards GSU, until Goober was hired xoopsx xeekx thank gawd xbowx

Anybody have this list for the last couple years?? Would be interesting to see who potentially has the great young QB's coming up in the next few years. Would also like to see where NDSU's recruit from last year sits in the big scheme of things, but bieng on the list does not ensure success as we well know. We had two on that list, Brekke transferred when Mertens was given the job last year and you all probably know how Mertens is working out for us. He is a hardworking kid, but just not cutting it. One of our big downfalls last year was the fact that we had absolutely no one to bring in if Mertens went down or didn't play well, other than a true freshmen or a Juco transfer who was just brought in to be a warm body. We got a nice recruit last year out of Wisconsin..Brock Jensen and another QB coming in next year out of Bismarck, ND who is a flat out athlete. God I miss Steve Walker...if he could've only been a senior last year.xoopsx

How did we let Eric Ward get out of the state of GA?????
GSU did recruit Ward but not agressively. They had someone coming in that they felt would be a better fit for the option. On the other hand Ward was not that interested in the option. I would have loved it considering the Ward family (his father) was born in Statesboro.

Matt Nichols wasn't even on that list, so I'd say he's definitely exceeded expectations.

Wasn't he recruited by Clemson to play CB, but chose ASU when he was promised a shot at playing QB?

7. Tyler Horner 6-3/195 Dayton, OH (Northmont) Southwest Missouri St.
Ah yes, Tyler Horner, named Ohio Prep Athlete of the Year, supposed to be the savior, now he "prefers" being our FG holder over being a QB... serious.
