Quarterback Mike Brown of Liberty, linebackers J.C. Sherritt of Eastern Washington and Ryan Consiglio of Chattanooga, and Florida A&M return specialist LeRoy Vann are the recipients of College Sporting News national Football Championship Subdivision honors for the week ending Sept. 21.

I talked to an offensive player this summer who said J.C. Sherritt might be the best athlete on this team. EWU pitched a shutout against UNC last week, and when last year's team leader in tackles Zach Johnson (LB) comes back from injury in a couple of weeks, we might actually have a legit defense for once. Now if the usually reliable offense can get started.

Sherritt, Zuber Earn Big Sky Player of the Week Honors

Sherritt also honored nationally as the two juniors help the 19th-Ranked Eagles record their first shutout at Woodward Field since 1983

Junior linebacker J.C. Sherritt and punter Cameron Zuber have been honored by the Big Sky Conference as players of the week for their contributions to Eastern Washington University's 16-0 victory over Northern Colorado last Saturday (Sept. 19). Sherritt was also selected as one of four National All-Stars by College Sporting News for his effort against the Bears.

The victory helped Eastern improve from 21st to 19th in this week's Sports Network NCAA Football Championship Subdivision poll. Eastern held the Bears to a 0-of-4 performance on fourth down, 4-of-14 on third down and had four sacks.

Sherritt, a junior who graduated from Pullman (Wash.) High School in 2006, was the league's defensive player of the week. He equaled the 16th-most tackles in school history with 16 versus the Bears, including three for losses. He also recovered a fumble, one of four turnovers the Eagles forced. Sherritt leads the Big Sky and ranks ninth in FCS with an average of just over 12 tackles per game (total of 37).

"J.C. has played great in three-straight games," said head coach Beau Baldwin. "He has consistently been in double-digit tackles and is always around the ball. He's a great player and a great leader for us."
