Offense

RB Cliffton Gordon, Illinois State, So., 6-0, 210, Chicago Heights (Ill.) Marian Catholic High

Gordon rushed for 96 yards on 17 carries and had four rushing TDs, all of which were career highs. His four rushing TDs were the most by an ISU back since 2005 and also tied the Hancock Stadium record. Gordon had entered the game with 11 total yards on eight carries for the season. Only five players in league history (WIU’s Travis Glasford did it twice) have had more than four rushing TDs in a game, and there have been only four backs in the last four seasons to rush for four-plus touchdowns in a game.

Defense

DE Waylon Richardet, Missouri State, Jr., 6-1, 269, Perryville (Mo.) St. Vincent’s HS

Richardet was everywhere for the Bears in Saturday’s win over Murray State. He recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown, was in on two sacks, and recorded 2.5 tackles for loss. He ran two plays at fullback and also was an integral part of the MSU kickoff return game as the Bears averaged 39.0 yards per return. The Bears’ held a second straight opponent under 20 points for the first time since the 2006 season.

Special Teams

RS/WR Todd Speight, Western Illinois, Jr., 5-8, 165, Bradenton (Fla.) Southeast

Speight became just the third player in league history to record two TD returns in the same game as he had a punt return and kickoff return for touchdowns against Stephen F. Austin. It marks the first time in school history that a player had returned one of each for a score. Speight’s 88-yard punt return for a touchdown was the fourth-longest in league history, and the second-longest punt return in school history and the longest since the 2003 season when James Norris returned a punt for 95 yards. Speight totaled 295 yards in returns on the night with 207 from kickoffs and 88 from punts.
