I wasn't sure about this, so I think somebody here knows. Are there 18 playoff spots this season, or does that start in 2010? I knew that the news about the playoff expansion was a few years ago, and I wasn't sure what year they start expanding. Thanks.

Starts next year in 2010. This year is still no auto for the NEC or Big South and only 16 teams.

20!?! But yet the FBS can't have a playoff system.

So with 20 how many auto bids will there be and how many at large.

No, the FBS can't have playoffs because of schoolwork. Apparently someone's worried that a bunch of Rhodes Scholars from Coral Gables are going to be shorted of their classroom time, while some thug out in Bethlehem might as well miss some classes since he won't be going anywhere in life anyhow xoopsx

No, but the FCS will soon have just as many teams as the FBS gets bowls. Soon it will be 32...then 48...just a bunch of _________ if you ask me.

I seriously doubt that happening. The FCS isn't that stupid!

How many bowls are there? 32? 33? There is your 64 teams right there. FCS soon to follow.

The highest I can ever see it going is 28 and then only if the Ivy comes to their senses, the SWAC turns down the $$$$, the PFL is granted an AQ and the Great West gets enough teams.


Besides that a CAA split could lead to another conference, but I don't see that happeneing any time soon.

I thought the C in FCS was for the CAA? Wasn't there a rule passed by the NCAA last year stating that all schools should be in the CAA by the end of 2013?

I don't know. Div III went to 32 teams for their playoffs. FAR TOO MANY.
