Current events only effect my ranking so much*. With Armanti healthy, I don't see App losing another game this year (did I just say that :pumpuke:). I pretty much rank as I see them finishing unless something happens that makes me change my opinion. Same reason I still have Weber in the top 10. I know I'll get alot of flack, but its what I believe.
* I realized I may need to clarify this statement. McNeese is a perfect example. Had I taken a one game perspective, McNeese would have fell out of my poll after their performance against Henderson St. but they stayed in the high teens for me b/c I wanted to see a larger sample size. Similarly, they beat an ASU team with a rusty Armanti, but it was at the Rock. Do I skyrocket them up the poll? No. What happens if they lay an egg against Savannah St? I don't like playing top 25 bungee jumping. Over the course of the season consistantcy will be rewarded or penalized accordingly.

McNeese #11
App St. #12
McNeese needs to knock off Tulane to get into the top 10, and ASU needs to start winning, and no more losses.
The CAA South, with all their FBS wins are again setting up to be the one with multiple 2nd round play-off games. JMU may be more a 9/10 than a 5/6. SIU has the horrid D-II game, that shouldn't be part of the schedule. Part of the reason McNeese is looking outside top 10.
SDSU has the ONE GAME on the resume, and next challenging game should be Cal Poly on 10/3. Jacks need to have a lot on "back up" minutes in the next two games. The 4th qtr vs GSU was a lot of back ups.
Elon is generally untested.

A little data for you.....Elon at 4 may look a little lofty, and they have played two easy teams. However, they lead the nation in total offense and total defense, on any level. So, I like them at #4. I guess we'll really see after Sat. at Wake Forest.

Both SIU and SDSU have only played one game. SIU is currently 0-1 how can they be ahead of us? Their one loss is to a lesser opponent, and by more points than our 1 loss.
SDSU is looking impressive, but GSU squeaked by Albany so is that a quality win? I know our win isn't against a quality team, but it was by 59 points. Not many teams are winning by that much against D2 teams, and this is a FCS team we did it to. Not the quality of team SDSU beat by 38, but is GSU that quality of a team. So far I have to say they aren't. I can't say we are better than SDSU yet, but I can say if we aren't better we are right next to them. To me Gil it seems you are having a tough time dealing with UNI being so good. You already have a little brother syndrome and you have only been in the conference 1 year.
If you would have seen us play at all this year you would at least have us at number 10. Notice everyone else on here has us at least in the top 10, and most have us in the top 5.

So we go to the national semifinals last year, get a 3 seed, finish with a 12-3 record, start the year losing to a Big 10 team by 1 point and blow out an FCS team 66-7 and that isnt good enough to be in the Top Ten?
Seems like other factors may be at play here.
I'm not saying UNI is definately going to be a Top 10 team at the end of the year, but it makes no sense not to have us in now, IMO.

I am shocked that no one has ranked UNI #1. They outplayed & should have beaten #22 Iowa in front of 71k fans. Iowa was a TOP 25 FBS team..they went on to crush Iowa State. I know UNI lost but how many games in history ended on 2 blocked FG? I know it's not ASU over Michigan 2007 but how many "Top 25" FBS have ever been beaten by a FCS team before ASU-Michigan. My point is this is a significant game...then UNI turn puts up 66 points last week. QB Pat Grace, a kicker, thunder & lightning in the backfield...with a great D....they're the team to beat in my opinion. Having watched Richmond almost lose to Delaware, I give the #2 spot to Villanova....I also think W&M & JMU are solid top to bottom & showed their superiority in match-ups with FCS too (I'm not overly enamored with FCS wins but Virginia & Maryland are legitimate programs). I think App State would be in my top 6 even at 0-4!! - they are so good every year that I can't see the DNA changing after 2 close ones without their best player. I would also add that anyone who had UNH in their top 6, hasn't seen them play yet. I am a UNH fanatic & I think they have the best defense they've had in a decade BUT their offense has been woeful.....it couldn't beat any team on this list today. However, if they can find their rythym & plays, get RB Kackert back, & Toman can regain his accuracy - they will be more balanced in playoffs than previous years (Oct 10th Villanova will say a lot)

If thats your rationale, and you're going to disregard our 1 point loss to a Top 25 FBS team, and how we finished last year, what has Elon or SIU, or heck even Wofford or Cal Poly or Montana done to deserve to be ahead of UNI right now based on your criteria. What exactly are your criteria that leave UNI out of the Top 10?
I know Im coming off like a dbag, but Id just like to see the set of rules that puts UNI outside of the Top Ten at this point.

i dont see how everyone has Elon so high. they have not been tested. they have only beat Davidson and Presby, both teams could be beaten by most if not all of the rest of the socon. if they beat wake by a lot this weekend i will be a little more sold. but untill then i say they are too high. i do agree that McNeese should be in the top 7. they looked really good last sat. but to be honest... wake isnt that strong, they lost to Baylor and only beat Stanford by 7.

Elon, Cal-Poly and Montana do not have a loss. I have UNI 2 or 3 in the MVFC, and I went with SIU at 2 at this time. We don't know how good Iowa is in the Big 10 right now. Central Michigan just beat Michigan St. If Wofford loses to Wisconsin this weekend, they drop big in my poll. If SDSU loses to Minnesota, same thing. Elon and Wofford are my 1 & 2 in the SoCo, both in the top 10. Sorry if there are no hard fast rules this early in the season. xpeacex

i dont see how everyone has Elon so high. they have not been tested. they have only beat Davidson and Presby, both teams could be beaten by most if not all of the rest of the socon. if they beat wake by a lot this weekend i will be a little more sold. but untill then i say they are too high. i do agree that McNeese should be in the top 7. they looked really good last sat. but to be honest... wake isnt that strong, they lost to Baylor and only beat Stanford by 7.
Elon has 18 of 22 starters back on a team that was 7-1 at one point and ranked #3 for several weeks last year. Top 6 or 7 is not too lofty for them. If they beat Wake by a lot? How about if they beat them at all. That should be enough to change your mind. And, Of course McNeese State looked good. They were playing the now 0-2 Mountaineers.xnodx

Any undefeated team with an FBS win should be in the top 10...sooo, Richmond, W&M, 'Nova, and UNH. Signature FCS Wins: McNeese State, South Dakota State, Richmond (you can see why Richmond is my #1).
There is absolutely, positively, NO WAY anyone can think SIU is better than UNI, in my opinion. Having played both in the playoffs, it wasn't close, talent wise, IMO, nevermind that SIU lost their best and only significant offensive threat.
My top 10, as I recall, was:
1. Richmond
2. Nova
3. Northern Iowa
4. William and Mary
5. New Hampshire
6. Montana
7. James Madison
8. McNeese
9. Southern Illinois
10. South Dakota State
In retrospect, I should have flopped 9 and 10, but I had SIU higher than SDSU to begin the season.

All I'll say is that I'd put Northern Iowa at #1 at this point. I think a real good argument can be made for Richmond. But if I honestly ask myself which FCS team right now has had the most impressive performance and appears to be the best team in FCS my answer is 'Northern Iowa."
We're not in the CAA though. :D

Seems like Montana plays some close games with lesser competition every year, and ends up with a great record, Big Sky Championship and a playoff bid. It's hard to get a read based on past history.
That's why it's good to watch games. Not necesarily aimed at you, but a general comment.

Sorry if there are no hard fast rules this early in the season. xpeacex
I understand these are you opinions and there are no hard and fast rules, but if you are bringing in the fact that we don't know how good Iowa is then you need to re-look at SIU and SDSU. SIU has only played Marshall and I think we can agree Iowa is better than Marshall. So shouldn't a 1-1 team be better than an 0-1 team?
And we have no idea how good GSU is yet. Are they better than USD? I think that should be very evident, but again we have less to judge them on as they have played only 1 game. I know it isn't much, but our sample size is slightly larger than theirs.
I realize at this point polls mean nothing, but it seems you have some sort of axe to grind. I could see that as a lot of UNI fans have gotten pretty full of themselves after a close loss to Iowa, and a blowout of USD. I am not sold on Iowa I think they will be middle of the road in the Big 10, and USD could not have stopped an 80 year old woman from getting 200 receiving yards. They made no adjustments on defense all game either. That being said I find it difficult to not have us at least in the top 10 at this point. xpeacex

Cal Poly over the Griz, huh? xwhistlex
I'm not even going to attempt to vote for a top 10, but the Griz have had two bad games, and Cal Poly was surprisingly good in it's first and only game. Is Cal Poly as good or better than Montana? October 10 may decide that, though the Griz will have a distinct advantage in Missoula, weather wise and "12th man" wise.
I hope Montana plays better than they have. While a 38 - 0 score shows one team very superior to another, when a top FCS team plays a mediocre to awful NAIA team, it either showing mercy, or is fairly bad itself. Western State has lost to Fort Hays State 45 - 17 and to Nebraska-Kearney 45 - 13 and shows no evidence of being a good football team. And then they (the Griz) won (barely) 17-10 to a Cal Davis, a team that had been destroyed the previous week by FBS Fresno State 51 - 0, and it wasn't that close. The defense that couldn't stop Fresno State, kept Montana at a standstill. And a (evidently horrible offense - Davis attempted 60 passes, mostly short, and had no running game) was able to score one touchdown and one field goal.
Montana will have to play better to beat Cal Poly, even in Missoula.

That's Mickey being the Mick. When push came to shove you see who had the majority of the playing time on the field against Maryland. However, that said if Duzdik is having a bad game I would not even blink to see Thorpe immediately come in.

I am shocked that no one has ranked UNI #1. They outplayed & should have beaten #22 Iowa in front of 71k fans. Iowa was a TOP 25 FBS team..they went on to crush Iowa State.
Time will tell if Iowa is a Top 25 team. Crushing Iowa State? They were 2-10 last year.

I may not have watched Montana, but I have seen Iowa, and IMO, they are not a top 25 team, and I watched Iowa St, which IMO, is the worst FBS school that NDSU has played, which doesn't give me much hope for a winning season for NDSU. People laughed when I said App St would be Michigan, and NDSU would beat Montana in 2003. UNI should have beat Iowa.

Wow 89, you're the only poster to this entire thread that doesn't have WM in the top 10. Most had us in the top 5. No big deal, but I have to ask your justification. Obviously on-field results mean knowing in your evaluation process, so I'm just curious as to what rationale you use for your rankings. Perhaps we are trying too hard to show we don't have a CAA bias byexcluding UNH and WM. Hard to argue at this point that WM doesn't have a top ten resume.

SDSU had a great win, but thats just 1 game. We might have the squad to become a top ten team this year. But right now??
